How many people are pushing this?Now this is an interesting take. Much more so than pushing the bball matters narrative.
Agreed, but I bet everything moves fairly quickly from here.My guess is this doesnt mean a ton today. This is probably just getting everyone on the same page, advising regents on current status and best steps forward.
I don't get how you get that comparison. The PAC's two biggest dogs just left and the conference is wounded. No one left the ACC.This time reminds me of when Clemson and Florida State were "rumored" to be going to the Big 12. Notre Dame joined the ACC and the good expansion news got squashed.
I think for AZ/ASU/Utah that answer is a super obvious no and they are ready to sign up immediately. Not as sure for the others including CU.
In the unlikely event UW/Oregon stick around, they could see some sort of "pie slicing" at 8 the way we did for years at 10.
How many people are pushing this?
Strength in viewership as well.
There's just a lot more interest for CFB in the midwest
We'll, UT and OU didn't exactly announce a year ago (they were exposed), but your point is a good one.I can't stress enough how important it was for UT and OU to announce a year before USC/UCLA.
Dont forget the Massive University sponsored Steriod program. It is widely known that Nebby dispensed the roids like candy during that time too.Nebraska's dynasty I believe was combination of good fortune, good timing, and unique circumstances that started to erode after the formation of the Big 12.
They had a lot of things going for themselves during their heyday including:
* Excellent, innovative coaching (and strength program)
* Able to recruit nationally due to limited TV slot availability
* Partial qualifiers
* Walk-on program
* ...
Towards the end, these things started to fall apart, leading to Nebraska's irrational and erratic decision making and current state of the program.
Nebraska fans keep looking to the past in order to reclaim their former glory, but it's unlikely that they will find the success they are looking for there.
Every college football team is on TV now, would-be Nebraska "walk-ons" go to NDSU or Wyoming, and they probably won't be able to get partial qualifiers in the B1G.
Really I think Bo Pelini probably achieved sort of the peak of what modern Nebraska football could look like unless they find the next great coach (chances for that are pretty low I think).
IMO there's not a lot that separates Nebraska from any other midwest team right now besides unrealistic expectations and a storied past over 20 years ago.
Maybe if they can convince Warren Buffett to set up an NIL program, they can have some good seasons lol
For some reason realignment Stan’s can’t handle a little hypothetical basketball ramifications talk. King Football! Same as when they were in HS playing in the 1A substate. ‘85 was supposed to be their year but their QB knocked up his gf and had to drop out of school and get a job at the Co-op.
Someone will emerge. Someone has to win the Big12. The key will be the Big12 getting at least some playoff wins. Powerhouses come and go. Kids today aren’t going to care about Nebraska being good before they were born.The best and worst part of the new Big 12 is the lack of super power. The SEC and B1G aren't clamoring for any of our schools.
The fight is for #3 versus the ACC. That is why we HAVE to expand so it puts pressure on further realignment changes to crush the ACC when Clemson, UNC, and FSU leave.
Yormack started early.So...If the NEW Commissioner Yormak, who hasn't started yet, is talking to these schools, technically, they're not meeting with the Big12.
I was talking about how we were excited about add some big name schools and weakening a conference. But then nothing happened. It still is good news for us with the Pac being a lesser conference than a week ago.I don't get how you get that comparison. The PAC's two biggest dogs just left and the conference is wounded. No one left the ACC.
I am sure their fans are fanatics and WSU is a solid university. All I am saying there is a hierarchy in college sports regarding media rights value. Unfortunately, Iowa State isn't top 35-40 from a a TV Rights $ perspective. Unfortunately for Washington State they aren't in the top 50.I know nothing about OSU, so I can’t comment on them. I get what you’re saying and I don’t want to quibble too much, but fan base support is more than simply attendance at events. We’ve certainly had lean years when the team lacked the current success. Their football stadium only holds ~35K. Also, geographically, WSU is at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to attendance. Having been there, the campus is nice and the fans are as rabid about their team as we are about ours. If you recall, it was quite the competition as to which fan base was going to drink more when we played them in the bowl game. They are generally a fun group of fans. I know it has to be this way on some level, but I hate to see them reduced to their attendance or TV numbers, because I know first hand it’s more than that.
And the scholarship limit skirting of having the football players being on track scholarships and every county have a scholarship for a player on the football team.Dont forget the Massive University sponsored Steriod program. It is widely known that Nebby dispensed the roids like candy during that time too.
