Rankings Drop?

AP just out ISU 15…. Iowa 5 ….sigh

Okay on us, but Iowa 5? Wow. They have a great defense, but you would think they will play much better executing offenses than what ours is right now. But what they've done the first two weeks beating two ranked teams convincingly, I guess they deserve it. That's what we would say if it were us anyway. Besides, who you going to rank? Clemson already lost, A&M only won 10-7 vs. unranked Colorado, and Ohio State bit the dust. As hard as it is to swallow, I'm glad at least that there isn't 4 Alabama types at the top every year.

This is exactly what I was afraid of and mentioned before our game yesterday.
Iowa wins and they will be a "fools gold" Top 5 team with 2 easy games in front of them. They just keep getting turnovers.
I would argue Iowa is worse offensively than isu (which is hard to do), and defensively not as good. They just force turnovers. Iowa state has outstanding defense, just doesn't force TO's.

For those at home. How were the announcers to ISU? Fair? Hard on us? Positive? What angle did we get from them? Sometimes that feeds into the rankings.

We should not be 14. Rankings should have nothing to do with last year and only on this year. We don't deserve to be ranked right now and Iowa deserves to be 5th. I still believe we can turn this into a 2002 Iowa year and be ranked high at the end of the year but we don't deserve anything right now

If ISU is not worthy of being ranked then iowa should be nowhere near the top 10.

A good year to have an average team. Very few teams are really good this year.

Iowa is not worthy of #5. ISU is not worthy of #14. Yet. But, after victories over UNLV, Baylor, and KU, the voters will be impressed.

SP+ has Iowa at #15 (#2 defense, #63 offense, #11 special teams). Last week they were at #12 (#1/#51/#13) so they dropped 3 spots in the victory.

ISU is at #18 (#22/#18/#119), moving up one spot from #19 (#27/#16/#73) after last week.

The SP+ rankings come from opponent-adjusted play-by-play data. It rewards teams for playing well against good opponents and punishes teams for playing poorly against bad opponents. It also tries to normalize "luck," whether good or bad, to be better at predicting outcomes (it had Iowa by 2, 26-24, so before the TOs I'd say it was pretty dialed in). Before the UNI game they had us at #7 (#22/#7/N/A).
