Cashman??? You sure because he trains at the OTC full time under.....KJ And so will Brooks and a handful of other elite guys after this HS season...soooo I wouldn’t be hanging my hat on KJ Sending positive vibes to his wrestlers for them to end up at isu....just say’n
Not a knowledgeable fan at all - but I do follow team and care. I am sold on the new staff and expect we will be a lot better in a couple years. That said, I am shocked by how poor our talent level is. I guess I just did not realize how far we had fallen talent wise. You experts - who is in the program that could potentially be an all American in the next few years? Not sure I saw anybody besides Degen.

Degen and Storr should AA within that timeframe. I believe Harrington has a shot.

You can “just say” all you want. But you’re wrong on multiple accounts in one post. I personally know otherwise. Thanks for your uniformed opinion though. Cool first post...

Ok fine what do you know? I’d like to know because I would like to know how isu gets top level guys that KJ is training....

Storr definitely has the talent. Going off HS resumes Gomez, Colbray & Harrington should have the talent, but have not shown it yet. I'm hopeful for Leisure and Coleman.

Hard to say anything about Gomez, since he hasn't been on the mat yet. I think Leisure, Coleman and Gomez will be assets to the team in the future

Not that it matters at all, I just wasn't aware of how "hands off" Dresser is. Zadick basically is the coach, and Dresser admits himself that he handles all the office and marketing type stuff. Sure, Dresser is at most practices, but he pretty much stands and watches.

I don't have an issue with that, especially since it seemed to work well at VT, I just didn't realize that was his style.

I have never looked into it but I thinks its way off to say there is no talent in the room. Based off high school recruiting rankings I would guess were around 12-15th. For many reasons a lot of them never panned out.

Changing the culture takes time

While I don't disagree with that statement in general, here's our lineup...

125: Allison, Guy recruited from the ISU Wrestling Club, never spent a day with Jackson. And if Vega hadn't left prior to the seasion he would have been a redshirt freshman who spent less than a season with Jackson.
133: Parker, redshirt freshman who spent less than a season with Jackson, has now spent about the same amount of time with Dresser/Zadick. Sometimes Simmons, but only because Parker has been struggling.
141: Storr, redshirt freshman who spent less than a season with Jackson, has now spent about the same amount of time with Dresser/Zadick.
149: Degan, never spent a day with Jackson
157: Straw, redshirt sophomore. Spent a season and a half with Jackson.
165: Breitenbach, redshirt junior. Spent two and a half seasons with Jackson, or St. John if he gets healthy, never spent a day with Jackson.
174: Bush, JuCo transfer, never spent a day with Jackson
184: Pestano, redshirt senior. Spent a lot of time with Jackson.
197: Colbray, redhsirt freshman who spent less than a season with Jackson, has now spent about the same amount of time with Dresser/Zadick.
HWT: Harrington, redshirt junior. Spent two and a half seasons with Jackson

This is a young team (which is also why the coaches haven't lost my support despite the results, the lineup is almost all freshman/sophomores). Most of the guys in the lineup have spent as much time under this staff as the last one. Three of them never had Jackson had a coach period (four if St. John gets healthy) and another three only had him as a coach for half a season. And if you go through the full roster it isn't like there's a whole bunch of upperclassmen sitting around in the background. Wrestling isn't like football where you have 100 guys on the team and you need every one to buy in before you see results. I still think we're a top 20 team in March.

KJ has no animosity towards ISU. It’s his alma mater and a school that gave him 8 years of running the program...way more than he probably should have been given. He wears Iowa State stuff all of the time in Colorado Springs and when he’s out at competitions. He isn’t negatively recruiting against ISU. If people are just assuming that, than that makes sense, because they are wrong.

And also, a side note, yes KJ is out there and yes there are high level athletes out there. You know who else is out there? Bill Zadick, you know, the HEAD coach of the USA team..the same guy who just lead USA to a world title? Yeah that guy, he is the brother of our associate head coach...

Stop with the “so and so is at the OTC getting negative feedback on ISU” .. it’s wrong and stupid. Sorry to be harsh, but it drives me nuts.

And yes, Cashman is seriously considering ISU and could happen soon.

My main thought is these guys were shown the ropes by a senior dominated team and an unnamed junior. If they slacked off and didn't live the lifestyle, the true frosh and redshirt frosh probably didn't either. Look at Degen's mentality the last 2 duals, way different than most the team. Today was definitely better than Friday.

Interesting thing I learned at the social is.
You can't compete on 2 separate D1 rosters in the same season. Which might explain why Mackall would not be eligible to wrestle the 2nd semester at Iowa State.

buf87 - not doubting you, but wasn't Andrew Long on both Iowa States and Penn States roster the year he transferred there?

Wasn't he suspended until he transfered? I don't remember him ever actually taking the mat that year in an ISU singlet.

If you're a Linebacker and the safety went out last night and got trashed it impacts you directly.

You are correct.

lol, I had started to type something yesterday about "culture change" difference between team sports and individual sports but stopped because I didn't think it was worth the effort. I forgot that CF saves anything you type and didn't notice it when I put that reply.

Whatever sport it is, senior leadership always seems to be the driving force when culture is involved. I don't care how great the juniors through freshmen are, if the seniors are poor leadership, the whole team suffers. Not hammering on our seniors, I just don't think the example of how to lead has been there for them. This is why I believe a poorer culture can stick around longer than just a year.
