Iowa
Supposedly Spencer Lee will get his redshirt pulled by Iowa this weekend. I can only assume that means Downey will be eligible soon also.

Gfeller, a true frosh at Ok State beat Storr in Vega & has now won The Scuffle also. He pinned Nick Lee of Penn State, also a true frosh at Penn State.

DeSanto got hurt at Scuffle

UNI got 2nd at the Scuffle and has no senior starters. I can not figure out why they are redshirting Steiert. It seems their 2 best teams are going to be this year and next. Schwarm, Yates, Alber, Thomsen, ????, Steiert, Lugan, Foster, Holcslag, Isley.

Fix did not wrestle at Scuffle but was entered, not sure what happen.

The Scuffle wasn't super deep this year but it is fair to say Gfeller would be ranked at least in the 10-12 range, maybe higher, if he wasn't redshirting. So that loss that Storr took to him isn't looking too bad. There aren't many ranked guys up for him in the second half of the season (depending on who we see at the Virginia duals) so I don't think we're going to really know where Storr stands until the postseason other than being confident that he's going to reach the postseason.

Wrestling notes for this weekend have Breitenbach and St. John both listed as "or"s at 165 rather than having Diblasi wrestling up. Though obviously we won't know if that's real until Friday.

I assume Bush is at 174?

Not sure Simmons, Dante or Gremmel did enough at Midlands to warrant a start, but still seems like somebody needs to make a statement for the starting spot

Yeah, they list Swalla as an "or" but I have to think it is Bush's spot. He didn't kill it at Midlands but he should still be a step up at the weight.

Simmons and Dante are both listed as "or"s as well but this staff seems to like to list a lot of "or"s so I'm not reading too much in to it. Maybe we'll see them, maybe we won't. Or maybe they'll each get one of the two meets this weekend. Nobody knows but them and the coaches.

I hadn't noticed this until looking just now but the same guy (Ben Thorton of Purdue) eliminated Parker in Vegas and Simmons at Midlands.

Heard he can’t compete until classes officially start. Not sure if correct, but makes sense

We desperately need an infusion of (top end) talent in the room. If Carr comes in ready to go next year, I say send him out. There are so many true freshman wrestling at a high level these days. Plus with the amount of injuries that happen, shifting of weights, etc. having a redshirt year available in the future isn't a bad thing. I really hope this staff has a huge recruiting year. This year they built depth, next year they need to secure less kids but more talent. Need to focus on securing 3-4 top 20-25 kids - I know that sounds like a obvious, no **** statement but that is the only way to compete with the PSU, tOSU, IOWA and OSU's of the world. Off to a good start with Foca. Really hoping we can get some transfers this off season. I know it's a rebuild, but the pressure will be on sooner rather than later.

Tough to argue with this. There's such a huge talent disparity between where we are and the top end programs that it doesn't even look like we're competing in the same division right now. I like our coaching staff a lot but the nuclear winter that KJ left behind is becoming more evident by the day.

The most disappointing thing is that we were building up for last year with a senior dominated team and it was a disaster.

Recruits that went elsewhere
I see Ethan Smith is 13-3 with Ohio State at 184
Jake Allar is 0-0 with Minnesota at 165
Jared Verkleeren is 9-2 with Penn State at 149 & a 7th place Scuffle finish

I also see that Francis Duggan hasn't competed yet for Iowa City West.

We definitely still need to recruit 125, then is it best available?

I think we need a JuCo at 125 unless we can lock up somebody who can step on to the mat right away or if we were confident that Parker, Gomez, or Simmons could shrink down with an offseason to do so.

125 is a must for obvious reasons..if Allison gets hurt, we'll forfeit the weight which is just absolutely disgusting to think about at a place like ISU..

But yeah after 125 it is best available..IMO, we have no proven top shelf guys on campus. I think Carr will be when he arrives...I think Gomez should be..but in reality we have no proven hammers in the room (at the college level). We should take best talent available for the next 2-3 years as long as its not taking 3 guys at one weight or something

I don't know if he is ready to fill the spot as a true freshman or not...but I have a feeling that Aaron Cashman could end up in cardinal and gold.. good feeling... ;)

I would think Simmons is the only 1 that could realistically shrink to 125, definitely not Parker. 133 is supposedly a tough cut for him
