I was a T.A. and the department set me up with a bunch of stand-alone courses.
But our funding level only allows 5 years, so I spent last year focused solely on writing and spend my time now looking for a job, or even a response to an application would do in a pinch.
Companies are awful at replying back during the application process. I applied to a place 6 months before getting an email that they moved on. I didn’t need an email to tell me that. That was a smaller company also so It’s not like they were sifting through 100’s of applicants.

Met the local crazy lady last night while walking the dog. She has her Pomeranian, a tailess cat, a white rat, and some birds in her freezer. Says she is going to have a big funeral some day.

Of course she met the gf the day before so she knows everything about us. Loves Sadie as well. Told the gf after the walk that we know which street to avoid now.

Yeah, she's eyeballing Sadie for her freezer stock, I'll bet.

A couple of times a day, I get robot calls saying "the extended warranty on your car expired", "the warranty on your house needs to be extended" or "if you don't reply now we can't help you lower the interest on your credit cards". Yesterday, all three calls came within 10 minutes. I realized that all three messages had the same woman's voice.

It's probably KC pranking you.

Applied for a neat prof position at a Nazarene college in Kansas City. Literally couldn't have been more than a dozen applicants, and that # is stretching it.
Some guy who specializes in Methodist history around Missouri and Kansas in the Civil War era got the job. One of those deals that makes me shake my head. In a century of job searching, that guy wouldn't appear twice, but there it was.

Just curious, mostly because of your level of education - didn't you attend seminary? Would you tell me which denomination you grew up in? (I know religion isn't a topic people normally discuss, but in this case I think it's apropos.)

I grew up outside of church. I became a Baptist as an adult, and got my M.Div. at a Baptist seminary in Ankeny.

Along the way, I've actually picked up enough graduate credits for 3 PhDs and something left over.

John Wesley XI? Yes, I did the math to estimate about which number descendant of John Wesley it would be.

Because of her pneumonia, my wife was on prednisone last week. It was pretty much like she was nesting again. One day, she decided to move all of the furniture in the living room and office and vacuum under it and along the base of the wall and along the ceiling lines. She then decided to organize the closet and bookshelf in the office and had me organize the cords under the desk. She then organized the craft table she uses in the office. I didn't want her working too hard and getting sick again so I helped her with all of this. Here's a little secret I probably shouldn't share but sometimes men go outside to do work so that they don't have to do work inside the house.
Did she NOT get the memo about rest, rest, and more rest????

The vixen had a real wild episode with prednisone. She insisted that I make sure no doctor ever gives it to her again. (She's fairly dramatic, BTW.)

The first time I was on that stuff it was awful. I would get some severe sort of heartburn for about 60 minutes afterward. I would break out in a sweat and could barely breath. They gave me more when I had shingles but I didn't experience any of that again.

Man, I told myself there was no way I could have gone to school for 4 more years after undergrad. You, obviously, were on the other spectrum.

Follow-up from my physical last week. Doctor and I figured that we might as well test everything before I join the uninsured and unemployed.

Been battling with my metabolism ever since this allergy battle began. We're learning now that I'm right on the edge of a hypothyroid condition, like pretty much there, and things seem to indicate that chemical allergies really wreak havoc on your thyroid and subsequently the metabolism.

Quietly using Samuel L. Jackson's favorite word for the family members who continue to refuse to adjust and instead keep exposing me to this stuff. I think we're looking at a lifetime of medication to keep the thyroid in line.

Rant over. The punching bags will endure some extra motivation tomorrow morning.

Yesterday I was taking an early morning walk along the same path I take every time and was attacked by damn red wing blackbirds. Like full-on assault complete with dive-bombing and pecking my head. Not cool. Took a different route on my bike ride this morning.

Well, if you'd quit wearing suet on top of your head..........
