It's in a small pot. I ain't planting that here. If it grows for a couple years I'll bring it down for the KC "100-Acre Wood."

I am kinda 50/50 on growing stuff that volunteers. Have two nice pagoda dogwood trees that are both volunteers (they grow pretty fast). Have tried to grow a couple redbud trees but they died after they got chest high. The redbud I have is a northern strain that's hardy (relatively) here, think the ones from its seeds are not hardy like a cutting would be. Bad genes man, bad genes.

Those redbuds are so gorgeous in the spring.......too bad they don't bloom like that all summer. I have a quaking aspen in the front yard that has really gotten beautiful the last couple years. I just love the way the leaves flutter in the breeze.

Wow upper management dropped a bomb on my division and they are changing our formula for bonuses, basically reducing them 25-35% for this upcoming fiscal year.

My reaction was basically:
Open Tab > Company internal homepage > Internal Job Listings > Click

Economy strong, check.
Unemployment down, check.
Corporations getting yuge tax cuts, check.
Wages continue to be stagnant, check.

And supposedly we were on track to have the best year ever. Numbers aren't out for Q4 yet but Q1-3 were record breaking. Un freaking real

Actually, ******* real, not unreal. This is the new real. :(

The obit for former Gov. Ray reminded me that when I was your age business owned some congressman, labor owned some and some were still free. Today business owns pretty much all of them. Even the ones not owned with direct contributions run in fear of an opponent who will be funded millions to beat them so they sell out and don't even get the money. Not sure which is worse, the cynics that take and run with the money or the cowards that run away in fear of it. The handful that are not owned are branded as reactionary socialists or gadflys.

I have totally depressed myself now.

Some days I think I should get my CDL and start driving a truck. They are in great demand, I would get to see the country. The only downside would be having to drive into some big city. I know a trucker that I hardly see anymore as he is so busy.

I have trucker friend who says it is 99% boredom and one percent sheer terror.

Has never fully recovered from two girls dying when they crossed over the median in rain storm and he hit them. Absolutely nothing he could do.

The demand for CDL drivers down by me is really high. These are just guys driving concrete trucks. We are offering $3-$4 an hour over what we estimated just to get people to even sniff at our job openings.

That said, I'm not sure I could do it. The local guys are in sure chaos trying to drive around the city and the long haul guys are always pushing the clock trying to make a destination and not get stopped with their hours.

Decker Truck Line has two full-time salaried people who do nothing but headhunt for drivers. They cannot find enough decent drivers to fill their schedules. With the new electronic logs, most of the older, hard-line drivers simply don't want to deal with it anymore.

I like the walnuts. The squirrels like the walnuts too. And since our "yard" is a "yard" in name only, I'm fine with them growing here. :D

There have been times when I have been jealous dump truck/concrete truck drivers.

The pilot shortage is also very real but I enjoy seeing my family.

WHY IS THE WATER BOTTLE LEAKY?!?!? I HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS LATELY WITH FOOD THAT WOULD OTHERWISE HIT THE FLOOR HITTING MY SHIRT INSTEAD. DH finds it highly amusing to put a paper towel bib on me at dinner now.

I DON'T ******* NEED YOU JOINING IN, WATER BOTTLE!

From the archives:

This is a segment Harry Reasoner broadcast back in 1972 about his hometown of Humboldt. We were living there at the time, and my mother is featured somewhat prominently in one of the segments. She is the blonde with the flip hairdo beginning at the 13:09 mark - the camera will pan off her, and then back onto her again.

She was singing in Humboldt's Community Chorus then. Several of my high school classmates are also in the program.

I just did something I never do and emailed the maker to (politely) complain. I really like the bottle otherwise - keeps water cold foreeeeeeeeeever and doesn't get all schnasty from my bad habit of not washing often enough - but dribbling down my shirt is not ok. They already responded asking for order numbers and a picture of the bottle.
