Whoever decided an internal conference should happen the week of Valentine's Day probably deserves to be fired.

It obviously doesn't matter to me because #loveisntreal but I bet at least one divorce happens because of it.

It was probably a married guy so he has a reason to get out of the over inflated faux holiday.

I thought it was grey duck? But it isn't.

Husband had a gal in his friend circle at ISU from St Cloud. She didn't understand the word "casserole", and when described, she says "Oh, a hot dish!" So hubby and his best friend start giving her crap. "So what do you make a hot dish in? A hot dish dish?" Couple of days later, she comes back with "My mom says it's a hot dish glass pan."

Fast forward several years later, and we're invited to her wedding. Made sure we were the ones to buy her the small Corningware set they registered for, just so we could attach the note "Now you have your own hot dish glass pan." :D
You fell for my little trap. They profess that it is gray duck but it is totally arbitrary. What color are the other ducks. Since they aren't defined how do we know the other ducks aren't gray as well? It will forever be duck, duck, goose and no amount of living in Minnesota will ever change that.

Good argument.

We're having an ugly sweater contest today at work. I don't have one, so I cut out a picture of Buddy the Elf and taped it to my sweater. I'm getting votes.
We took the kids to the touring Broadway show Elf at the Ordway last weekend. Sitting in front of us was a 10 year old kid with a bright green sweater that had Buddy on it and "Santa, I know him!" or some other quote from the movie. I was pretty sure at that point that the kid got bullied regularly at school.

And yes, it was an honest-to-God sweater, not a sweatshirt.

Kid has strep throat, so we take him to the clinic wait in waiting room forever, he informs me he has a semester test in 20 minutes after a long wait. They pull us in, nurse has kids scattered around mine. I tell her and she hammers her stuff out. Dr. Comes in says I think so, why don’t you wait, said he has a test and we need to move.

As we walk out the nurse tells us, test she took turns positive. I thought Dr offices want to get you in and out, we want that but they wanted to lolly gag or something.

Wish we would get those pharmacies where they swab you and hand you the script right there.

Also, I have been in Minnesota for 20 years and I still call it green bean casserole - not hot dish. I don't hate them for saying hot dish. You shouldn't hate people for being wrong - just pity them.

The thing that absolutely grates on my nerves about speaking Minnesotan is a select number of them who mispronounce the most common contractions. They drop consonants and a syllable in the contractions wouldn't, couldn't and shouldn't. They sound like wount, count and shount. The middle one sounding dangerously close to a word my mom told me I should never say to a girl.

If the strep test is positive he shouldn't be going to class for a test anyway. Strep is highly contagious. Didn't they say no school for 24 hours or more after getting treatment?

At a HS game at a catholic school Tuesday night. Main restroom has many urinals and stalls. Only two sinks and one old very slow hand dryer. No paper towels. I looked under the dryer and it was dry, not the puddle you see quite often.

I wouldn’t order anything from the concession stand after that. Had a feeling that washing your hands after using the facilities is not something stressed there.

I've gotten to the point where I won't grab the handle of public bathrooms anymore. Just think about it for a little bit, and you'll know where I'm coming from. ;)

Didn’t say, but he will be fine. I took a look Wednesday night noticed he hadn’t finished his meds from his eye, knew what he’d get for strep and told him to finish it for both reasons so he has been on treatment for 36 hours. Today is last day of school also.

We're heading to Des Moines for Christmas today. Here are the logistics to get us out of town early, get to DM by 8, and not leave a car parked in an unusual spot since we won't be back until Wednesday.

Last night, I put the cargo topper on the vehicle and loaded everything except the wife's suitcase. Hopefully, she remembered to put it in the back of the vehicle this morning. I walked about a mile to a corner the bus travels past to catch a ride to work. The oldest daughter had to go into school early so she had a friend give her a ride. Called into youngest daughter's school to get a pass to leave school an hour early. Since she works at this school, Mrs JCyclonee had to get permission from an assistant principal to leave an hour early. The son didn't want to get up early so he got a ride to the high school from a neighbor. After school, the two oldest need to walk across the street to the school where my wife works and the youngest attends. They should leave that school by about 2:30. When they approach downtown, they will text me that they are near. I will then change into comfortable clothes and meet them on the side of a street. My wife or daughter will then need to switch seats so that I can drive through the early rush hour traffic to get out of town. This is all part of the reason we have the equivalent of a case of beer, 2 bottles of wine and a 1.75 liter bottle of Jameson packed for 2 days in Iowa.

I use paper towels to open or will pull my hand in and use my shirt sleeve if possible. Aren’t doors supposed to open out anyhow?

Kids rolled in after 11:00. First thing the five year old says is "Where is the Iowa State helmet." He totally digs that helmet.

Also toddler grandniece did a chin plant on the bathroom vanity top this morning. A little blood, very little crying....trooper! She was also channeling her inner @cowgirl836 when she found an old beanie baby kitty and was totally meowing.

If there are paper towels, I'll use one to open the door. Otherwise, I will open it with my little finger, at the least worn part of the handle (usually the bottom). Also, I run the towel dispenser out before I wash my hands.

Pretty sure Velo was referring to him infecting OTHER kids. Who will now have strep for Christmas. Merry Christmas to them.
