That is just as bad as the Iowa beehives that were vandalized--over $60K in damages including the loss of bees. Vandals had taken out the security cameras first, and people were still trying to say it was maybe bears or something. No, just 12 & 13yr old kids. That is like 6th grade.
That was depressing to hear about. The kids were caught. Hopefully they get to spend the next few summers collecting honey and understanding the vital importance of bees to the world. I was in the Hyatt in downtown St Louis a couple of years ago and noticed that there were beehives on the roof. You don't think about it but cities need bees as well.

That is what we are having her do, too. She said there is a junior in her Spanish 1 class. I told her I hope that kids doesn't want to go to a school like ISU. Get it done in HS.

Double check interests and requirements. If son goes Ag at ISU, the latest requirement would be no foreign language.

For at least one of my ISU boys it was also a requirement for one of their scholarships.

True story. In my Construction Documents class at ISU, we had to name four types of bonds. I could only think of three, so for my fourth I put down James Bond. My roommate had the same class and instructor, but a different time. He came back and told me the teacher had read that to them. And, best of all, he gave me a point for it.

Right now she has no clue about an undergrad degree. Of course there are ones that are better for getting into vet med than others, but we haven't approached that yet.

Thought they might be 3A. At least you have a guaranteed win. Sons district is turrible.

Wow, they would have to miss most of school just for the bus ride. Crazy.

Last time Ottumwa was at Mason City, they had lightning delay upon lightning delay upon lightning delay. They had to finish the game on Saturday afternoon. Luckily, husband had reserved a room nearby because he didn't want to drive for 3+ hours, call a game, then drive 3+ hours back. He just got home Saturday evening instead of Saturday afternoon.

Son will have 6 credits after this year. Then next year will be mostly college business classes.

My son is one of the few ones with a full time farmer as a dad and he’s in 0 ag classes. Not excessive interest and instructor I don’t think is strong and I’m trying to be nice.
Is he taking any classes in EMT, auto dealer management, sports announcing...?

Basic economics I believe. Remember I lectured economics for Waldorf so that kinda fits. Except the guy who does this stuff is lucky he can tie his shoes. He may have driven by a business once.

They caught those kids didn't they? Hopefully their folks will be writing a nice check to cover their idiocy. Even if the beekeepers insurance covers it, I hope the families have to pay restitution. That kind of stuff just ticks me off.

5th grade band concert tonight. Wish me luck

Our 5th grade band concert fun is compounded by an auditorium that is too small for our student population. You have to get there 30+ min early to get a seat for the awesomeness that is 5th grade band.

Sounded like the beekeeper was not able to insure the hives, so everything was an out of pocket loss. They did catch the kids.

SIAP, but the two kids were ages 12 and 13. Seriously???????

Ear plugs, man...

"And that was Mary Had a Little Lamb"

200.webp

Pffft. Mary Had a Little Lamb was 4th grade.

It's amazing to think, though, that I went from a 4th grade band, where we were just literally honking (I'm looking at you, saxaphones) to 8 years later playing this.

All right...not THAT fast...but that arrangement.

First 5th grade band concert I was at was before I had kids and my wife wanted me there. It was an elementary concert also. Band was to play two songs. After all the singing. They came out, tuned their instruments and the instructor stood up and said, "for our last somg". All I could think was, what I thought was tuning was an actual song?

Yeah, what was reported was that the bees could not be insured, but that the victims had raised enough funds from a kickstarter campaign to begin anew (not the full $60K)

Uninsurable makes it pretty simple sue the families. If the kids were 18 they would be going to jail.

I have done double digit fifth grade band concerts. Get there half an hour early to be able to get a good location to film. Get about a minute and a half of music and five minutes of director talk, then leave.

Fast forward seven years and they are playing their solo contest solo that they rocked a top rating on at their senior spring concert and you are crying like a baby and hope you can’t be heard in the recording.
