So this slightly ties into conversation I just had with coworkers. Our employer allows us to have our email on our phone (gmail, calendar, hangouts etc.) along with apps they have produced to record our time which due to our line of work is required for every tenth of an hour worked. However to do so you have to give them ability to monitor/secure your phone. My coworkers are very against this and are of the viewpoint that if our employer is not paying for at least a portion of their phone they are not giving this kind of control over to them or going to use it for work. Am I too laid back by allowing them to do so?
In a word...yes.So this slightly ties into conversation I just had with coworkers. If they want to monitor ALL of your phone's functions, they should provide you with a "work" phone, IMO.

@wxman1 this is what I would do, get a basic phone for an extra 20/month and then you can keep work stuff there and hide the porn access from the wife. They gave my son a desk phone, but the nature of his job involves hardly ever being at his desk. Given his email volume, the job is much easier being able to check email on a phone. Hence paying for a second phone.
I'm still trying to figure out how they knew I was a lonely stranger.Looks legit. Also, isn't this how all The hotties get men?

Yeah. That will never happen since I don't know of anyone being provided a phone including several levels of management up from me. Stipends are also probably an extreme long shot since that would be a crap ton of money for the company.
Some companies offer you a choice, but not very many. I just don't see allowing the company to monitor my personal phone use. They gave my son a desk phone, but the nature of his job involves hardly ever being at his desk. agreed, and no way that if I were with cloneinwdsm that I wouldn't purposely try to embarrass him![]()
I'll get right on that and keep you updated.Email back and ask.
That is so true.IMO, though...it's just one more way that the "connectability" of the current workforce is slaving them to jobs 24/7.![]()

If someone chooses to buy an additional phone, that's their choice - but if a company is insisting that you be continuously available to email via smart phone and that they need to monitor the security of said phone, I still think that is the company's choice and they should provide the means necessary.
Obviously, many companies don't agree with my assessment.

Hey, Tax Peeps!
Can Carvers' son deduct the second phone as a "work expense" like uniforms, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, etc?
