They keep talking about the imminent blooming of the corpse flower at the botanical center. They've even got a live feed of it. Every time I see it, I'm reminded of triffids...

I got home from last night's baseball game at about 9:30 and saw something I wasn't expecting.

We just painted my teenage daughter's room. She enlisted the help of some of the teenage neighbors to move furniture back into her room. Two of them, we'll call them Hansel and Gretel are siblings. I walked in with a bed frame to assemble the bed. Hansel is putting makeup on Gretel's face sitting at my daughter's desk.
 

So this slightly ties into conversation I just had with coworkers. Our employer allows us to have our email on our phone (gmail, calendar, hangouts etc.) along with apps they have produced to record our time which due to our line of work is required for every tenth of an hour worked. However to do so you have to give them ability to monitor/secure your phone. My coworkers are very against this and are of the viewpoint that if our employer is not paying for at least a portion of their phone they are not giving this kind of control over to them or going to use it for work. Am I too laid back by allowing them to do so?

Our company wants the ability to access our personal phones if we are using it for company email. They want us to install an app that will give them the ability to access my phone any time they want. There is absolutely no way I am giving them access to my personal phone. They gave me a company phone which sits at home on the charger. They can access it all they want.

I guess it depends on how you feel about them. I think you have a right to be present when they go through your phone since what they need shouldn't take a long time.

I wouldn't have an issue with it myself, but I don't really have anything of value on my phone. I try not to do much financial stuff on my phone. I do online banking (with a series of passwords) but I don't store any credit card info at all. I try to imagine losing my phone or having it stolen and what kind of danger I'd be in. Probably 95% of my phone usage is texts, CF, random internet searches, a few pictures, Google Maps and E-mail.

If it ain't a company phone, just all the **** hell no to the max. If there is stuff they need to access or secure then they should be giving you a company phone. Bad enough that Google, Amazon and Facebook know more about us then Santa Claus, I wouldn't want my workplace having that kind of potential access to my stuff.

what happens if you are fired? I've heard horror stories of people having their phones remotely wiped by the company because it had company data. I'd want a separate company phone that the company pays for, full stop. In fact for us, you are not supposed to have work email on your phone at all unless it's a company phone.

The bolded is where I'd have an issue. No to that.

My wife works for a financial company and gets sensitive E-mails with account numbers and such. She's not allowed to access those from her phone, and I think that makes perfect sense. A company should have restrictions on where those E-mails can be accessed for security purposes.

Oh, if you had ever golfed you would remember. It's a traumatic experience. :confused: This is not a fun thing like dodgeball and kickball.

With that said, live post reports on RTT by a Rum Brooklyn on a golf round would be golden. :rolleyes:

My son got promoted into a position where they do this and have ability to monitor phone. He got a separate work phone just because he was worried about dumb stuff his friends send him. He figured the promotion more than covers the extra costs.

and again, aside from the access to personal info - I'm fairly certain that buried somewhere in the T&C's on these type of things is that they have the ability to wipe data if you leave the company. If they require access to your mobile phone for your work, then that requires they provide you a company phone.
