I was in a triple in Towers freshman year. One random roommate still a friend, the other was a spazz who played Queen loudly 24/7, but with earplugs, she was ok.

Sophomore year, same floor Towers with different roommate, a friend from year before. Her mother died and she had to quit school to help her dad with siblings. Second semester, got a random who met a guy the day she moved in. I woke up at 2:00 a.m. to their sex in my room. Spent 2nd semester on futon in the room next door or couch in the den. He was always there, was creepy and made a move on me too.

Junior and senior year, same floor in Towers with another friend. Still a friend. She was anorexic though and that was scary, we took her to Mary Greeley emergency room when she collapsed walking to class. 5'8"and 82 pounds.

Of my three randoms, only really bad one was the one having sex in our room every night and most mornings.

You have to hand it to her. That is fairly impressive.

Did you invite yourself to come in for coffee when you got home?

For some reason this is reminding me of an old Tom Waits intro to "Better Off Without a Wife". It's a weird funny Waits monolog.

But I've always kinda been partial to calling myself up on the phone and asking myself out, you know?
Oh yeah, you call yourself up too huh? Yeah, well one thing about it, you're always around.
Yeah I know, yeah you ask yourself out, you know, some class joint somewhere.
The Burrito King or something, you know. Well I ain't cheap you know.
Take yourself out for a couple of drinks maybe.

Link to the whole thing but you have to read in your best Tom Waits voice.

Includes one of my fav Waits lines "I'm not weird about it or anything, I don't tie myself up first." Second only to "How long you been combing your hair with a wrench?" from his album with Crystal Gayle.

My freshman year roommate was actually a junior. She had changed her major multiple times so she wasn't close to a degree yet. Her last change was into aerospace engineering (usually people change out of that major . . . ) We got along well, I think we both had hometown boyfriend issues to start. Got a phone call over Winter break--"I'm not going back to Iowa State" so I had a room to myself at Willow. Sophomore year I moved into the sorority house where we picked our roommates every semester.

I can imagine picking roommates in a sorority. That had to be changing as often as possible.

I can't complain too much about my roommates during school. First year roommate had the same major as me. Really good guy and incredibly intelligent. He was much more diligent about studying than me and had a girlfriend that had a single so he was gone a lot.
Second year I moved to a room with a friend. First roommate moved into a room with a different friend. Third year moved into an apartment with the 1st two roommates. Last year moved into a house with roommate #1 and his 2nd year year roommate and a few other friends. Although we don't see each other any more, we still exchange Christmas cards and occasionally communicate via group emails. I guess if anybody had to complain about their roommates in my arrangements, it would have been others complaining about me.

To the best of my knowledge I am the only person in the world that owns this album and can sing along with this song. So WTF do I do about that? Damn right, post it to RTT.

What a unique set of singing partners. I wouldn't generally think of Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle in the same music discussion.

You know how they say every family has nutjobs in it and if you think yours does not, then it's you? Same with roommates ;)

Washington stated many things. You should be more specific.
Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington?

Yah, beauty and the beast there. His voice with an extra dose of Waits and her's is so smooth and beautiful. From the somewhat obscure Coppola movie, One From the Heart with Nastassja Kinski. Nastassja Kinski, just sayin'.
