Home. About 25 hours of planes, trains & buses. Are you home or still stranded in O'Hare?
Ah ok.
Today's the last day of the internship so I'm staying in my apartment tonight and leaving for my summer class tomorrow where they'll have housing for us. Also, I was smart to take the over. I sat that there 2.5 hours (which wasn't too bad, I just worked on a writing sample and read) before my name was called. And the best part? They wouldn't let me deregister once I finally could talk to them. Apparently Germany gives you about 7 days from when you deregister to when you leave. So they won't do it since I'll be in Giessen for a month. Even though I'll be there legally and everyone agrees I don't need to register there. So I have three options: I can register and then deregister in Giessen, I can come back to the Bürgeramt in Frankfurt and deregister before I leave (except not really because I'll get back into Giessen on a Saturday and why would a worse version of our DMV think to be open on a Saturday), or (and this is an option I've given myself) I can just say **** it and leave without deregistering and just screw over future woo making it a real hassle if I ever want to work over here or follow a so or wife over here (this last option is really tempting).

Got caught up on Game of Thrones yesterday. Now back to work so I can spend the weekend helping migrate a client into our data center.
It seems that German efficiency often battles the German love of paperwork. We recently had a consultant come over from Germany. I had some papers I needed him to sign and I apologized for all of the American federal bureaucracy crap. He responded that he didn't mind because Germans love their paperwork.Ah ok.

I started watching it. I'll try to get back to it later. Now that you're caught up, you need to go check out my thread with Samuel L Jackson explaining GoT
(shameless plug for thread hits...)
(but not really - don't care about that. just thought it was funny)

Leider nicht. It's difficult to meet people over here especially when I'm only here for a short time. I'd love one, but that would also be a terrible long distance relationship to be in. But following a serious German girlfriend or wife would be the most likely way for me to come back to live over here.So...reading into this like the grandmother I am, should I infer that du hast eine Freudin in Deutschland?
I'm just going to say it. I have not been impressed with their bureaucracy. Maybe it's because I haven't dealt with the U.S. bureaucracy much, but I'm more impressed with ours. We work longer hours and I'd say we get things done quicker. They make the DMV look like efficient. It seems that German efficiency often battles the German love of paperwork. The law firm I worked at worked a lot more, but yeah, it's open 32.5 hours a week. And I think we're overworked in the States, and they have a much healthy work-life balance, but I don't think it's onerous to have the office open from 8:00-5:00 every day.A lot of that is just the culture. I am assuming they have a 35 hour week there as well and getting people to work any over that regularly is like pulling teeth? Then we don't blink an eye at 40+ and a significant portion of the population works 50+

I've noticed that Europeans do tend to take hiccups in stride much better than Americans. I did have to do a short study of the German postal service and found that they deliver 95% of their letters within 1 day anywhere in the country and 99% within 2 days. When I needed paperwork delivered the short distance from Munich to Dusseldorf in 2 days their was virtually a 100% chance that they were going to get there on time.Leider nicht.
