Oh, this thread did not disappoint overnight...I'm sad I missed it.

I tip my hat...

I've had sleep paralysis before. I didn't dream up crazy killers or anything but I couldn't move and felt an intense fear of something.Like something was about to walk into my room and get me. One time it was a weekend and I could see the light was still on in our living room so I knew DH was still out there. I was trying to yell to him to help but nothing was actually being said. It's happened a couple times where I'll yell enough that I actually get noise out and wake myself up (and DH too) screaming. Not a big fan.

I think it may run in the family because my dad tells a story about how shortly after his grandfather died he had an encounter where he woke up to his grandpa sitting on his chest telling him to wake up because he was saying goodbye. It felt very real to him but thinking about it now as an adult I can see the signs of it being sleep paralysis - inability to move and intense pressure on his chest.

That is freaky!

so there are actually several stories about that grandpa that we have.

my uncle was staying at the farm helping with something around the same time as my dad's story and sleeping on the couch. Middle of the night he woke up to someone calling his name in the room and it sounded like his grandpa. He said he didn't turn over to look. He didn't tell this story until one time my dad was telling his story. My parents are like why didn't you look, he was probably trying to say goodbye. Said he wasn't sure what he would see if he turned over. Both of them had been very close to their grandpa and he actually died on the farm in the main barn.

Oh and then, right after we moved to the farm my mom said a few times when she'd go out to the barn to get started, she saw someone walking down the aisle in front of the cows, going into a feed room. She said it was always before she would get the dogs up and she could see the cows move their heads back a little like they do when a "real" person walks through. When we moved is when all the family turmoil came to a head and she wondered if that had anything to do with it. She said it only happened that first summer we moved.

And the last part of this happened a few years later. FYI, the grandpa died several years before my parents started dating so my mom never met him. We have this spot in the barn where we hang up coats that get used for certain tasks. Because they are packrats, there's a bunch of old ones in there we never use. So my dad was using his one day for something he only does a couple times a year and my mom happened to see the one hanging underneath. She asked who that coat that belonged to. My dad is like well that was grandpa's old coat, why? She said that was what she saw him wearing when he was walking through the barn those few times.

That was always the weirdest one to me. She had no way to have known what he would have normally worn in the barn.

32 today. Gonna watch some Jeaopardy, catch the early bird, then it's off to bed before it gets too late.

You might want to get some bingo in while you can still enjoy it. The years are fleeting, grasshopper. I hope your birthday was a good one.

do not like to hear that about the lines. Though we fly out on a Tuesday morning at like 5am. That should be ok, right? Right?
