do people like older children or do they only have kids for the birth-5 years old stage?

i watch our son (he's one) and it's the greatest thing in the world. my heartbeat. but i see kids like 12 running around and i wonder if people miss the younger years and all want to go back.

Hey, I'm just simply providing photographic evidence that women can indeed fish. I could also provide some of them surfing, although I'm not exactly sure what "hockey surfing" is in the OP.

It's the newest crossover sport. It's riding the coattails of skeet surfing

Timehop can be such an awesome thing.

6 years ago today on FB. Some classic comments and responses on that one.

Women can do all things men can.. except math, chess, running, jumping, lifting stuff, fixing things, making money, hockey surfing, driving, making decisions, being tall, taking out garbage, fishing, being funny on purpose, reading a map, listening to good bands, running the country, and inventing any thing important

It looks like this young lady is playing hockey just fine to me.

Pamela Anderson used to run well. I bet you can't take your eyes off of her.

Serious answer: Every year is something new. I once thought I'd miss a certain age because of something that I loved seeing her do or hearing her say, but you just find something else as they grow.

As their intelligence and comprehension grow, the conversations become fun and you get to see their personalities and sense of humor develop. It's natural to miss certain stages, but that is what pictures and videos are for. Always enjoy the now.

At age 6 we put the kids in a separate house and let them fend for themselves.

Personal theory -
Babies are born cute & helpless so that we will bond with them strongly enough to avoid killing them when they are teenagers.

I thought those were for blackmailing and/or embarrassing them later in life.

I honestly kind of struggled to be that close to little00 until he was old enough to interact. The first few months I felt like a psychopath because I wasn't all googly in love with him. (I now realize this isn't uncommon, but no one told me that). I did fall in love with littlest00 right away, but only because I knew what would be coming.

I enjoy spending time with my boys doing things now (3.5 and 5.5). A few months ago, we tore apart an engine I had laying around out of an old snowblower. They weren't much help, but they were fascinated, and would turn the wrench. Little00 ran an electric impact wrench when I last rotated tires. I think that'll increase as they are more helpful and learn things.

I think it depends on your perspective on parenting. If your validation comes from 'mothering' them, you can long for the younger days. (I use the 'mothering' term in the wrong, but stereotypical form there...they're completely dependant on you...that's not true mothering, but some in our society have made it that). If your validation comes from watching them go from completely helpless to completely self sufficient, you don't lose it, it gets more exciting.

Additional note....that twisted definition of parenting is becoming more prevalent. "helicopter parenting" and all...it is not our jobs as parents to make everything work out okay for our kids and make sure they're always happy, it's our job to make sure they're ready to join the world as adults...a world that is not always fair, is not always fun, and things don't always work out in the end, but is a heck of an experience if you immerse yourself fully in it.

I am supposed to go on vacation on Thursday May 5 and be out until Friday May 13.
I should start a timer for the first time I am called.

I don't have internet access when I am at Mom's. I have to go to the library if I need to log into work. I could probably set up my phone as a Wifi hotspot but the Sprint signal is spotty at her place.

First baseball game tonight in a suburb about 30 minutes away. The son needs to be there at 5:15.
First regular season softball game tonight in town. Daughter needs to be there at 5:45.
Teenager wants to go to the gym at 6:00.
Mrs JCyclonee has conferences.

Teenager either rides her bike or doesn't go and thank goodness for neighbors.
