I watched that show last week for the first time. I hadn't heard of it before then. It was pretty interesting but I absolutely hated how often they'd repeat certain events in the interviews and the portrayals. It got old real fast. I don't know if every episode is like that but the two hours could have been cut down to one hour.

oh yeah, you get to hear everything twice. The bear one a couple weeks ago was intense though.

Yeah I know but it seemed even worse. It makes me not want to watch it again.
 
So on an Agents of Shield commercial, the guy says "don't know where he comes from or where he'll go." Did no one in the writing room think that sounds a little too much like Cotton Eye Joe?

OK, since you mention farming, a couple articles I read last night piqued my interest.

So John Deere is arguing in support of DMCA...

John Deere even argued that letting people modify car computer systems will result in them pirating music through the on-board entertainment system, which would be one of the more convoluted ways to copy media (and the exemption process doesn’t authorize copyright infringement, anyway).

Seems odd, right? I mean, why would a tractor company care? Well, possibly because DMCA also can be used in support of them locking down the electronics of the tractor to prevent people other than John Deere authorized repair people from being able to do much of anything other than turn a few bolts on new tractors.

The family farmer who owns this tractor is a friend of mine. He just wanted a better way to fix a minor hydraulic sensor. Every time the sensor blew, the onboard computer would shut the tractor down. It takes a technician at least two days to order the part, get out to the farm, and swap out the sensor. So for two days, Dave’s tractor lies fallow. And so do his fields.

Dave asked me if there was some way to bypass a bum sensor while waiting for the repairman to show up. But fixing Dave’s sensor problem required fiddling around in the tractor’s highly proprietary computer system—the tractor’s engine control unit (tECU): the brains behind the agricultural beast.


One hour later, I hopped back out of the cab of the tractor. Defeated. I was unable to breach the wall of proprietary defenses that protected the tECU like a fortress. I couldn’t even connect to the computer. Because John Deere says I can’t.

we had a couple teenagers killed in a grain bin a couple years ago at an elevator. Stupid, horrible practices and no real prosecution but some fines. Wasn't good. So I'm shocked this guy is going to live.

yeah, we need to not let corporations get laws passed that treat them like special little snowflakes.

This episode is from Eldora. Isn't that one of the last exits before 35 when you're getting off 20?

the bear one was crazy. The bank one I only caught the second half but maybe it's that I think you can reason or deal with people (even bank robbers) more easily than a momma bear on a mountain?

We used barge boxes with hoists for our corn back inna day

like this, but 2-3X taller wagon sides...tall enough that the sides were taller than me:

I used to climb up in the wagon and shovel the corners out (from probably age 7 until 13 or so). The corn comes out the back thru a little door. I got sucked into it, and was stuck with my foot keeping the door from being shut. Thankfully, it wasn't high enough that I could suffocate, and my dad pulled me out, but I got a lot more respect and understanding for how that stuff happens after that.

I can't remember anyone going in an occupied bin. I know my mom used to raise hell that the boys were never allowed in there. They were in a few times when it was empty to sweep it out but never when there was corn in it.

I'm thinking the kid wearing this mask is what saved him.
 
usually the actor is better-looking than the real person but this mom is way better looking than the actress
