Being in the profession I'm in (journalism), I actually know a lot of professional photographers and videographers. In all seriousness, I'm hoping a couple friends will do it at a friendly price.
We have our names penciled in right now. We have a little bit of time to convince her mom before we have to make a final decision.That is awesome that it is available, hope you got it reserved.
They have a list of approved caterers, and we have to choose from that list. ISU Dining is an option.
We can also hire Hickory Park to cater for as low as $8/person.
We had a friend do video for our wedding, I *think* he did it for free (or however much beer we gifted him). After the wedding he put together a short "outtakes" video along with all the footage. We really need to get all of it converted to a different format other than VHS. As a side note, he went on to film school at USC and is now at Sundance with a movie he worked on.
Anyone in your or her family a member of the Alumni Association? I see you get a slight discount if you are, that will save you $50-100.

Seriously just enjoy the day. 99% of most peoples favorite shots are the candid stuff that you just simply can't take. A couple hundred bucks to a decent photog is all you need. Our photog was a person my in-laws knew that just charged a few hundred as a donation to a ministry of his choice. He gave us all the rights to the originals and some edits.

Brother-in-law did the main wedding one from the balcony at the back (and almost fell out of the balcony trying to get a front shot of me as I entered the church). There was also a stationary video-cam in the alcove at the front of the church. Sadly, our teenage sons got their hands on one of the two video cams during the reception and we have very random shots of the festivities along with extremely annoying narration. Man, the things that 13 to 16 year olds find funny...there are a few things I could very cheerfully kill them for, and a few that I will blackmail them with at some point in the future.
One thing I saw a lot of in the past was disposable cameras on the tables at the reception, with an invitation for the guests to take pictures for you. With the advent of digital, that's probably not as easy.
It's not my fiancee putting her foot down about (mainly because I think she is the only one picking up that I'm joking about it anyway). It's everyone else that thinks I'm serious.
Granted, I really wouldn't mind grabbing my own camera for a short duration of the reception to get a couple of my own photos.
I'm hoping my photo editor from the Iowa State Daily, who taught me everything I know about photography will be willing to photograph the big day.
We tried that, but apparently we did not make it clear enough that they were to turn in the cameras. I don't think we got any. Thankfully, we also had a photographer.

To replace the disposable camera thing there is now a free app that lets your guest's take pics from the app and upload them into an album or upload from shots they took. We were in a wedding last year that did used it. I think they put a note in the program and put notes on the table about it.

Yeah, everyone has a camera on their phone now...but I would be concerned about a public posting (posting all of the pics you take on the couple's FB pages, for example. I like the app idea.
See, what you guys all forget is that I SEE how you talk about women/co-eds. And you still think I would set you up with her? Not a chance! I like you guys (most of the time), but I'll let her make her own choices (and possibly mistakes). She doesn't need me for a wing man.
