Spitting/misting right now. Since last night we’ve had three separate rain periods. Total of 3.4 inches so far.

Went to a German fest yesterday at the fairgrounds. $8 for a 16oz beer, had Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier. Ate same subpar dumplings with gravy, but then had a delicious brat with kraut. Then I had the most delicious dessert I've ever had. Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. Made by a local caterer. I could've ate 10 of them. Going to have find a recipe for one or find a European bakery somewhere.

I really hate Octoberfest. It’s the busiest time of the year for me so I can never do that stuff.

Isn't LaCrosse the busiest one in the country? My buddy got married there the same weekend and it was a little silly how drunk we got between the two events.

This was the second year of it. Huge turnout. There was a 100'x200' tent with a band that was packed. Mader's, the famous German restaurant in Milwaukee, was there, but the line was so long I didn't want to wait. It's pretty good for a free admission event. I should've bought one of the hats.

Was such much long time gone but used to buy Sara Lee Black Forest Cake as a special treat in Iowa. Parental units used to stop and buy it at their outlet store in some town (New Hampton?) between their place and Rochester. Was also on my route down to Manchester. Was my favorite dessert even if it was frozen store bought mass produced. No longer a product they make.

Now I REALLY want it for nostalgia sake.

Believe the Sara Lee plant was in Charles City so maybe that is where the outlet was also?

So I have to go to a wedding this weekend in damn Iowa city (I know… not my side of the family but just one of those deals. This is an important detail). The wife was getting some clothes ready for herself and kids because, you know, pictures and crap and everything has to match.

Anyway, I was asked to be getting something for myself to offer up as what I might wear and I remembered that a couple weeks ago I found some old PPE (gloves, goggles, mask, face shield and a gown thing) from the ‘rona days. So, naturally, I put it all on and walked into the bedroom where she was collecting items and the following transpired:

JM: “I’m ready to go.”
Mrs: “What the hell is that?”
JM: “My outfit. I’m ready for the wedding.”
Mrs: “No.” (at this point all eye contact has ended)
JM: “No, what?”
Mrs: “Are you 12 years old?”
JM: “A 12 year old who won’t get any diseases going to that god forsaken town.”

Mrs did not respond for a good couple hours to anything I said. Totally worth it.

Did they include a shortcrust pastry base?
