Had two huge booms go off here in Ankeny about 5 minutes ago. I'm waiting to see if Ankenyfest will be setting off its own set of fireworks momentarily.

Get to watch a tree crew take down some dead pines across the street today that we were supposed to do. They got some fancy equipment.

Do you have insight as to what's causing the death of so many pines in the north woods?

Any information I've seen or read is mixed in results.

Haven't heard about that. Spider mites kill pines.

Yeah and there's a fungal disease but that seems to take more time.

Driving around up there, there's huge swaths of pines that are dead in the middle of much of the forest land.

I know of this crew. They got a big truck with a long boom on it that has a claw with a saw that they are using to cut sections of the trees down with and then trying to feed these big sections of tree through their chipper without cutting the branches of first. They're struggling with the first piece.

Yikes. The truck is dangling a 30 feet section of tree 20 feet in the air with guys underneath. No thanks. And they didn't have Alliant disconnect the electric supply to the house either.

Will probably go over about as well as when I told people we caught up to on the Upper Iowa River yesterday "we have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty". I thought it was funny.

Out in the Dakotas it was pine beetles a few yrs ago. Don't know what is up in Wi.

I like the idea of the joke, but electrons just doesn’t fit to me.

Can you just say “now we’re cooking with electricity?”
