I am about to have roofers in my lap from the sound of it!!!

Actually, Lew says it's them bringing up the new shingles. Tear-down on the house is already done!

A couple of minutes ago I glanced up and saw people standing outside my second story window - freaked me out for a moment until I realized they were working on the gazebo roof. :D

They are from Atlanta. Phones are on eastern time.
We went with a local company (well, Des Moines). So far, the communication with them has been really really good, and they are making good on all of their commitments. I haven't seen the end result yet, but I think we are going to be happy.

Sad thing is, these guys are probably not getting paid as much per hour as the guys that took over a year to build the addition. They DEFINITELY work harder.

This is going to sound bad: Anyone have any experience with tracking a child via an AirTag? Trying to help my sister out with her son.

He's 9 yrs old and has some developmental issues and occasionally likes to run away / disappear from their house. Not in a bad sense (like I hate my parents), but more in a I want to play on a trampoline and I know that my friend Billy down the street has a trampoline so I'm going to go to Billy's house. Then Billy's mom will call my sister saying, do you know your kid is out here? Everyone in the neighborhood is aware that he's got some developmental issues, so they all keep an eye out for him.

They've got chimes on all the doors and the older two kids also do a good job watching him, but it's hard to keep an eye on him at all times.

Trying to figure out a good way to help them keep track of him. My current thought is to figure out how to get an airtag in his shoes.

From what I've read, the Air Tag does not have real time tracking capability. It'll only update the location every few minutes (15?). We have them for our luggage and it's great for that, but we don't need the real time tracking.

I did some other searching online:

There's Joibit, but it requires a monthly subscription. It does have real time tracking, plus the ability for a child to send an emergency alert to the parents.

Would he wear a watch? Garmin makes the Garmin Bounce. It has real time tracking. From what I read online, parents can set "pre-approved" areas and you'll get a notification as soon as they leave that area. Not as pricey as an Apple, Verizon Gizmo or T-Mobile Sync Up watches.

Lew is feeling just a little bit sad right now. He put the roof on the garagemahal about 15 years ago, and on the house about 8 years ago. He won't be able to point to them and say "I did that all by myself" any more. :(

Ask the government for help since they installed tracking devices in all the Covid shots. This is a joke and not meant to be political.

Would the kid wear a watch? Putting one in the shoes isn't a bad idea. However, one of our neighbors did this and the child walked out without shoes on so it's not a perfect solution.

The last Indiana Jones movie comes out this week, saw the rest of them might as well see this one. KC was the guardians of the galaxies good or did you go to it?

One thing nice about the GotG movies is that they aren't entirely made up of whizzbang action with some oneliners thrown in. There's a lot more dialogue than special effects in them, unlike some of the recent Marvel movies (I'm looking at you, Dr Strange in your multiverse of madness).

Mowing a yard for a neighbor who lives down the street from us. Air quality not real great here in Ames this morning. Noticed the people behind the yard I was mowing both with cigarettes locked to their lips tending to their one of their maze of planter boxes in their. I had ear muffs on and could still hear one of them hacking up a lung. Must have lungs of steel or something. Just glad their guard dog (German Shepard) didn't jump the fence. May need to bring my trusty 12 guage with me next time just in case.

I’m inside at a conference this morning. To the south I honestly couldn’t tell if I was seeing smoke or humidity. To the north it’s a bit more clear. Rethinking the walk after work.

Kiddo proved a gatekeeper wrong today. Thinking of sending a note to his employer to discuss their customer service as a passive-aggressive finger for that particular gatekeeping troll.

Apparently in the world of roofers, 7.30a really means 6.40a. And they chose to start on the roof over our bedroom.

Ich hasse morgenmenschen...and I'm wearing that shirt to prove it.

Guess I shouldn't complain though, after over a year of construction people saying 7.30a and showing up around 9.00a...
My parents live in a lower of a rental and when renovations in the upper were being done a few years ago, the carpet guy showed up at 5am. He didn't think anyone lived in the lower because he didn't see any lights on, even though there were 3 cars in the driveway.

My daughter has one, and left one in her car from when she traveled. We got alerts on it one or two times, but that is all I know. When my daughter gets home I will try to remember to ask her how tracking it for her luggage went.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately he won't wear a watch (even if he did he'd probably end up breaking it as he has some anger/aggression issues as well). The shoe thought was that he knows he's supposed to wear shoes when going outside (and will get upset if he doesn't wear shoes) so he's almost always wearing them.

My BIL has a bunch of Ring cameras around their house so if he does decide to wander off, they at least know when and which direction. Using yesterday as an example, he was mad because no one would go out and play catch or pitch to him so he could hit, and then he saw his brother out hitting off the tee and got upset. He then decided that he wanted to go take a walk because he was upset (one of the things they were working on with him), but because he was mad at his mom and brother he didn't tell them. It's sound logic, just slightly flawed.

I completely forgot about the COVID trackers. They were first gen when they got theirs, so I don't know if they got the upgraded battery life and local bluetooth tracking add-ons that came in later. :jimlad:

No idea how I didn't catch it, but I just realized the Seinfeld episode 'The Understudy' was a knock at Tonya Harding through and through. Mind blown.

Well had to do a little redneck engineering today at work, had to put back on a brushguard/grill on a piece of equipment today 3 bolts lined up pretty good the 4th was probably 2-3 inches off. Didn't really respond to the sledge so grabbed a 4x6 and then put that between the guard and the post then slowly drove ahead till it came into place. Heck it was close enough that I didn't hardly need the punch to finish lining the holes up.

Main work was done about an hour ago, and most of the crew left. There were several guys finishing up the far side of the garagemahal...I think they're done because I don't hear them any more. They laugh...a lot! They were a very happy group.

Approximately 11 hours from tear down to finished roof. Dayum!!!
