Random Thoughts 15: Crystal Clear 2021 Edition

I admit that I have been critical of the Ivy school of business lately. I need to give them credit with my daughters last advisor visit. Those electives that I complained about that they force people to stay another semester or two to become” more well rounded” by taking art classes or bowling; well they admittedly scrapped that line of thought and told her that nearly all the students obtain a second major with their electives and informed her she needed to have a second major or a couple minors figured out by the visit. I had a rough class schedule that would graduate her in 3.5 at the 15 credits/semester so she was able to tweak some to make her advisor happy.

So, while saying at least honesty is popping through, why are colleges now throwing second majors on people instead of letting them out in 3 years? I know the answer, but at least they are starting to become a little more honest with us.

I don't get the love for Chick FIL A. It's a decent chicken sandwich but I would never sit in that line of cars for one. I think the one near 120th street causes more congestion than the Costco that's right there with it.
Most Chick Fil A locations are extremely efficient. The lines are always long but they get you through them quickly.

This CFA gets as much if not more of it's value from actually being fast and efficient compared to other "fast" food places. The app is a true game changer too. Order on our way there or before leaving and just let them know that we are there and that's it. I rarely spend more the 3-5 minutes there waiting for food. Plus the loyalty points system is the bomb.

I think most advisors are working on the other end of that equation especially with the few years isu was filled to the brim, they're trying to keep people from staying 5+. The people doing it shorter are probably a unicorn and not something they consider much. Rightly or wrongly.

Is this is because of knocking of college credits in H.S. ?

Time spent in college has a couple of other factors as well. Majors with a lot of stacked classes can be tough to complete quickly - ex: you need A to get into B, then B and C before you can take D, but A and B are only offered in the spring.
Another factor is the popularity of the major. Sometimes you can't get registered for required courses at times that will fit with the rest of your semester courseload because there are too many people trying for the same lectures/sections/labs.

Home Depot is only 3 miles from my house. The convenience is almost negated by having only two entrances from the street, one next to the Costco and the other next to the Costco gas station. 200 feet in off of either entrance is a four-way stop jammed with the Costco peeps.

Random: I haven't been in a fast food place since maybe January 2020? Guessing I might have stopped at the McD's at the Clear Lake exit, maybe. If so it would have been a coffee and two small road burgers.

Just come up north to our Home Depot. The entrance is literally right off of the I-94 ramp just west of 169. About as accessible as they get.

A long line at CFA often goes faster than just a few cars in other fast food lines. They move people through quickly usually. And as mentioned, the app is great for speeding things along. I kind of wish they'd make one of the drive thru lanes an 'app only' lane honestly.

No other fast food has a better spicy sandwich, imo, so i go there fairly regularly.

For sure. I found if you present plans to an advisor they will work for you sometimes. I actually to step A and B at the same time in a couple Econ classes. Did better in the intermediate class than beginning class actually.

The advisor said most students don’t have things laid out as well as my daughter did when she met. My daughter did have a former ISU student basically piece everything together for her to start (even though that student graduated a few years ago). Then the advisor felt they needed to help and told her she didn’t need a certain class and just delete it and she will be fine. Sounds great, until you realize it leaves her 2 credits short of graduating.

Taco Bell plans on doing that. 3 lanes with 1 being for people ordering right there, the other 2 for people that ordered ahead of time on the app or Doordash, Uber eats etc.

I was at a work conference this morning and at the end of the welcome (given by the dean of a college at the university where I work) he showed the horns down sign, said, "you all know what this is, right?" and when everyone laughed, said, "Go Cyclones!" Best conference welcome I've seen/heard for a while :)
