This will be my first RAGBRAI so I'm only going to do Tuesday and Wednesday. Who else is in? I'm guessing there are quite a few riders around here.

Do I need to have a day pass? What are they good for? I couldn't find any day pass specific info on the website but I assume the same privileges as the weeklong pass apply.

You are supposed to have a day pass, but many do not. The pass basically gets you into RAGBRAI events, and gets you help if your bike breaks or you get hurt. Without it, they may just leave you on the side of the road? lol

Not exactly sure. I've done just 1 day the previous two years and had a pass just in case. Have fun, it's awesome except for the hills.

you don't need a pass. I have been going for over 10 years without one. You are on your own for repairs and rides if needed, but it isn't necessary.

I may do the day into DSM... still trying to find some friends that want to go.

Passes aren't necessary but it takes money to put on RAGBARI so I always buy one. Have fun. Ride you bike, drink beer, make friends, eat pie. eat some more pie. Damn I love RAGBRAI nothing else in the world like its.

yes, but way more than 10,000 people apply so some get turned down. I have the means to go and be supported without RAGBRAI so if I get a pass, I just took it from someone that may not be able to go otherwise.

Maybe but with at 12 RAGBRAIs or so I have not gotten a pass via lottery yet. And yes if I didnt get a pass I would still go. I LOVE RAGBRAI. Its my Christmas. Beer and bikes I can get much happier.

there are people that get turned away for passes. My point is only to think twice before thinking that non-registered riders are cheating RAGBRAI.

I'm riding on Tuesday. Only thing left to now is figure out how to get the bikes out to or near the starting point in Perry. I'm pumped; I'm riding with my parents and it's their first RAGBRAI experience.

I didnt say anyone was cheating. Man hers my motto ride bikes, drink beer, make friends. However, I do think you should try to get a pass. Also day passes are given out pretty much unlimited I think.

Let me reapeat I love RAGBRAI. When you get up a big ******* hill and some dude is yelling "Smile its RAGBRAI" that me. I love it. Bring on the bikes (and beer)

I'm in. I highly recommend doing the whole week next time. I remember being nervous about my first one and whether I could make it... I hadn't done much training and probably only had 150 miles going into it due to an injury. I made it and actually felt much stronger toward the end of the week than I did that first day or two.

The big benefit of doing more days is that you can switch it up a little. Some days you can ride hard, finish quickly, and explore the overnight a little more. Some days you can bar hop. Some days you can stop for Beekman's and take a nap in the grass. I guess there's too much to RAGBRAI to really experience it in 2 days, or even the whole week for that matter. That's why people ride it again and again.

Riding two days, Knoxville to Fairfield. Done the whole ride several times in the past. I see it more as a physical challenge than a rolling festivity. Lots of standing in line.

My 23rd consecutive year... 21st with my college buddy... There are rules.... like if you arent sure if you should have another beer... you must. You dont have to have one if you are sure you dont want it. Also leave 1 person behind ie dont wait for everyone... there are lots of slow people who cant get ready quick enough... Also 2 simple recommendations... build a base (eat a good breakfast & more often that you think) and move to maintain... dont stay anywhere too long as you may not be able....

Enjoy, I like to learn the team name & slogans... one of my fav... Team Wind... Looking for some tail... but a little head will do...

I ride with Team Peske on Team Head

Thanks for the tips. Eventually I will do the whole week, but this year I can only do a couple days.

Hopefully I can (figuratively) run into a couple of you out there.

I don't think that the Register or the host towns are being hurt by non-registered riders, but non-registered riders do use the porta a pots, add to an already congested traffic situation, etc. The limit on the tickets is not because the Register doesn't want more money, it is to try to control how big the ride gets. I always make everyone in my group register for RAGBRAI because it does cost money to put on RAGBRAI. I don't mind someone hopping on for a day, but there are several groups out there that have the mindset that since they are not camping in the campgrounds that it is okay to not register for the whole week.
