Quarterback Position Reopens

The change I would like to see is us run more plays out of the pistol. If you remember, that 1st quarter pass to Horne for quite a few years was a pistol formation, play action bootleg. The pistol is just a variation of the spread. QB is in shotgun formation but only 3-4 yards back instead of 5-7 yards. This allows the QB to better read the D. RB lines up 7 yards back. Most running plays are straight handoffs but zone read can be run out of the pistol. Pistol allows for more down hill running too which I think will greatly help out offense. We seem to only run the pistol in the first quarter but it seems it is always successful.

I agree with this... I've been saying it all season, its something that i thought would have benefit steele a bit more, but also any QB we're playing... I think it just gives a different look and almost seems to give the qb more options...

Yes, he missed some plays and seemed rushed at the end but he still kept Iowa State in this football game with possibly the best team in this conference.. I'd be hesitant too if the D-Linemen were knocking down every other pass I attempted.. We need help on the line and a more steady run game.. To be in the game against a top 5 team which held the ball over 40 minutes to our sub-20, it's phenomenal that it was truly a game to the end. Whether you like it or not, Barnett has proven to give Iowa State a much better chance in conference play than Jantz. Period.

leadership, heart, and $4 will only buy you a superdog if you can't complete more than 48.5% of your passes. **** your moral victory ******** i hate moral victories maybe 5 years ago this would be encouraging but right now with the best ISU defense since 2005 and maybe ever this moral victory crap doesn't cut it.

klein is nowhere near nfl ready at qb he is a worse passer than tebow he will either not play in the nfl or he will play tight end/h-back

Barnett career at ISU - 11 TD's - 9 INT's

I can't find the number of fumbles but I think we all know Jantz would have higher numbers there too.

What's the point? Neither are putting up great numbers, but I think it's fair to say Jantz has had his chances and hasn't shown that he can run this offense without turning the ball over. Outside of the Iowa game last year, it hasn't been pretty. We nearly lost to Iowa this year because of his turnovers. No turnovers in that game and ISU wins by 21. If we had turnovers today, we wouldn't have been in this game. That is why Jantz is holding a clipboard. I'm sure he's a good kid and I respect his efforts, but we can't put a QB on the field who can't take care of the ball, period.

Jantz is also 0-5 against Big12 opponents with some of those being complete turds, whereas JB is 4-3 with wins over ranked foes.

We're so very close to being a special team this year, better than 2000. The margin is just razor thin against teams like KSU and we're just not quite there at the QB spot and to a lesser extent the WRS spot. It's a real shame. It's just a little disheartening to see that you have a Top20-25 team and still probably go 3-6 or 4-5 in the conference. This darn conference with the round robin is just a meat grinder. Imagine what we could do in those damned pillow fights they have over in the BigTen. It sounds so cliche but it's true.
 
I don't think we can put this so much on JB. Let's face it....this is what....like his 7th or 8th game as a college starter? He's basically a freshman quarterback that has been thrown into it now the last two seasons when the supposed best qb has failed. He would not even be in this position right now if Jantz was not an absolute turnover machine.

Yes, he does not see some receivers that are open. Yes, there are times he should probably run the ball himself. And yes, it would be great if he were more accurate and could hit a higher percentage of his throws. Plus, the interception in the endzone when ISU had momentum on its side was terrible.

But, imho, he played well enough to win this game. He does not call the plays. He does not play defense. He did not give up any long pass plays right before the half to give the momentum back to K-State. He had nothing to do with the fact that K-State gained 178 yards on the ground. He also had nothing to do with the fact that the ISU offensive line could only open holes big enough for ISU to gain only 86 yards on the ground.

He is a young quarterback that hopefully will get better this season. The teams remaining on ISU's schedule (outside of maybe OU) do not appear to take defense seriously at all. I still think it is very possible for this team to win another 3 or 4 games......but the line play on both sides has got to improve. If the offensive line cannot open holes for the running game......and the defensive line cannot put more pressure on the opposing qb.....it is going to be a bad season.

One final note....Woody has got to be hurting. I can't think of any other reason that ISU did not just pound the line more with him in there.

The question is, would you rather be in the Big 10 with no ranked teams and win or play in the best conference in football and get beat with a chance to win on your last possession against #5 in the country. The B1G is like the MAC this year and I think most honest hawk fans would even agree with that. We have to wear our big boy pants every week and I kind of feel like we are just better than Iowa now. We play in a bad *** conference, be proud.
 
I don't know how good the big 12 actually is. Two teams have a shot to play for a national title but neither are likely to be there. WVU looks like a paper. Tiger. Lots of even teams in the middle and only one bona fide bad team. Big 10 is bad and Iowa could actually win their conference which stinks. Its a good year for Iowa state to make some noise.

Really, the major inaccuracy was implying that it was ever closed. We do not have a Big 12 starter-level QB right now. Until we do, the spot will be up for grabs.

Hoping you watched the game on TV or recorded it as this was a graphic and question to the audience. "Which of these four QB's is the most NFL ready?" They showed Geno Smith, C Klein, B Miller, M Barkley. The commentators even went on to say that Klein will be a first-round choice. He's definitely better than Tannehill from A&M who is playing in the NFL now.
 
Collin Klein is not a better quarterback than Ryan Tannehill on any planet resembling earth. He's an even ******** version of Tebow.
