Development has been pretty average at many positions under Campbell.
I just don't know about this. It is easy to say that after a poor season, but would many people have said or agreed with this even 2 years ago? Probably not.

The OL has for sure been under developed and has under performed in pretty much all but our Fiest Bowl/Covid year.

WR room has always just had one guy at a time pretty much, except for the earlier Campbell years ironically, where it seems like we were really deep there. The 3 TE thing was cool, because it was unique for us, but I think it really screwed up the process with the WR room.

Changing your strength coach twice in 7 years speaks for itself. Maybe guys are hitting their max early? Either way we haven't exactly seen the kind of development that say an Iowa has. They had two first round picks this year.

I think lb and db has been decent. We have had some studs come in in both groups but we've also had guys that weren't big contributors when they came in but developed and played big roles as So's, Jr's and Sr's.

Rose and Vance seemed to regress with the weight gain. I'd guess it was to be able to take on the beating of the position but getting to the spot was the compromise.

Freshman Rose would do things like sneak around slip screens and we really didn't see that again.

Imo the 'conservative' thing gets over played a bit since ISU's used guys like Butler and Hall to expand the offense but why haven't we seen the darter type at ISU?

Didn't he have good Olines at Toledo too?
Deshaunte Jones is really the only guy who has filled that "M" role that Toledo had that was discussed a lot when Campbell was hired.

Totally agree that Vance and Rose got too big…. especially Vance. That hurt them.

Vance lost like 20-25 pounds while getting ready for the draft, and said he felt the best he ever had. Fastest he had ever been too. That was really an indictment on the S&C staff…. and ultimately CMC too. At least CMC did the right thing and got rid of that staff.

Not exactly sure.

I got roasted by many when I said that the S&C needed to go because we looked gassed out in games. That can lead to the OLs false starts, concentration goes down when you are tired. We were also playing high which happens when you are tired. If the new guy can improve there and Clanton can get some growth, we should be much better on the OLine.

We were high? Wow, that explains a LOT!

My first response to this is to say this is a bad take, but I think there is some truth in this. Defensively, we have been great, but I wonder if that is more Heacock and the position coaches than anything else. Not that Matt cant develop, but having an offensive backfield with Purdy and Hall helped mask the inadequacies that weve always had. Probably why Manning and Myers kept their jobs for so long. The issue with this year is that the record most likely will not reflect the growth. I think some of the past offensive success has been due to more individual playmakers other than the offense as a whole

We've been hearing these recruiting classes every year are Campbell's best classes. It's not translating with the WR and OL rooms for sure. This is the year where they need put up or shut and if they can't it doesn't bode well for the future IMO. Going to be hard if Dekkers doesn't play and even if he does he didn't look good last year. Running backs have me most worried because last year they were atrocious with the injuries. Sounds like we might be missing some from that room as well with the gambling fiasco. All the coaching changes would lean towards Campbell agreeing with my assessment and I frankly don't understand why it's even controversial with anyone? The last two years have been not great.
