is picked as an individual matchup to watch in the game Saturday. Purdy has to play better, but a lot of that is on the protection and the receivers as well. I know TCU has good safeties, but if Purdy has protection he will do well against them.

I will say the struggles Purdy had in the opener were there the last two games of last year as well, just not as pronounced.

It's hard to know how much the team has actually been practicing. Maybe they got in the typical pre-season reps. It's also possible Purdy, or some of the receivers and other offensive players missed many practices due to quarantine policies leading up to the first game. We just don't know. I'm pretty confident we haven't had "normal" practices though. The offense is likely not going to look very "sharp" quite often this year. We don't have the raw talent to just run through teams like Oklahoma. We depend on execution, which takes a lot of practice. Practice that we might not be getting enough of.

If our scheme, route trees, WR's ability to get separation, and Purdy's accuracy aren't improved from Louisiana..... we will definitely not win this matchup. Pretty simple.

Is Kolar ready? How about the line? Protection is needed for time and Kolar will occupy one of their better defenders.

Kolar is key. He can win in any situation. I bet you see TCU try to man him up with Moehrig a lot, but Charlies has a big size advantage.

If he steps into his throws or gets out into the flats he'll probably be more accurate.

Also if down and distance/situation are considered for the play call or routes that would help.

Both of these things have been consistently missing so I won't hold my breath.

The protection and receivers did not help him in the first game, but qb is a spot where when things are good you get all the credit, but when things don't go well its all on you. I think the O line needs to get a lot better, though growth up front can happen fairly quickly with experience.

True--somewhere the onus needs to go on someone for him throwing off his back foot.

It was covered up by Butler being able to take in under thrown balls but was pretty evident last year.

Keeping him tied up in the pocket waiting for several 15-20 yard routes to clear out when it's 3rd and 5 sure doesn't help.

Brock Purdy has had a streak of bad games.
Like a pitcher finding the strike zone, he needs to figure it out, the coaches need to let him have more freedom. He just seems to be overcoached at this point.

Overall the entire ISU program needs to figure it out.

I think the defense will limit TCU, but if the offense has another 14 point way to conservative play calling game it will not matter.

Burdy has to play better, we all know that. The footwork issues are really disappointing, would hope that would be cleaned up.

Any updates on Kolar?
