PUMA Basketball

Throw-down! Jay-Z vs Lavar.
Jay Z is so smart for Puma. Don't know how I hadn't heard that.

"What's important to him on a day like today is that it's clear we're making a serious push with players like Bagley and Ayton and Smith. We're making a serious statement about the entry of the category, that we want to be a performance brand, but then also very culturally focused. It's clear that we're looking at basketball through the lens of culture, and thinking about the fashion of basketball, the music of basketball, all the aspects of culture around basketball as much as the on court presence that we will have"

This quote right here is why they could continue to steal away big names from the normal brands. They very clearly know that they will never be thought of as the premier shoe of the game, so why not create that niche angle for young men to be intrigued by? Hell, the amount of commentary on pre-game outfits should show you all you need to know about what young NBA fans pay attention to outside of the court haha

I bought the Puma IGNITE PWRADAPT golf shoe. The most comfortable golf shoe I’ve ever owned and they didn’t even need to be broken in. Plus I think they look really cool. Hopefully their basketball shoe is just as solid.

I would guess they'll be some of the lighter, comfier shoes. I think the big question will be leg/knee/ankle/foot support.

I think Puma could move some units, but the only thing I question is signing big men.

Vince Carter wore Pumas for a little while in the early 2000s. Nike has an insane share of the basketball shoe market, something like 93%. Adidas and Under Armour have barely been able to make a dent in their sales.

Ayton wasn’t really a Nike guy and I don’t think Nike was behind the alleged payment IIRC. Marvin Bagley on the other hand signed with Puma after Nike paid his dad a ton of money to sponsor his AAU program. Trae Young is also supposedly considering Puma too.

This is probably bigger than Ayton & Bagley IMO. If Porter reaches his potential he seems like someone who actually could sell shoes. I’m not sure if I can say the same for those other two.
