PSU Campbell Presser

Where is it written that if football does not do well moving forward the 2-3 mil will vanish? Yes football is king of college sports; however from what I understand the 20.5 mil is not contingent on fielding a winning football team. The funding for the 20.5 mil to the athletic department, is coming from within the athletic department. The future ISU athletics, long term, will be decided by the Board of Regents and potentially tax payer funds.
Look at the profits from sports. Then realize that football draws more donations than any other sport out there. MBB makes a couple million. Football Carrie’s the water for the other 18 sports.

Ok that is fair, apologies for being presumptive here.

I absolutely hate the message of how hard it is to win at Iowa State. Hate it. From Matt, from anyone. And IMHO, I believe our Athletic Director is the single worst offender in this. That 15 minute side table interview on Twitter the weekend of December 5th - basically was just JP whining about "our reality", "do more with less", blah blah blah.

Once again, did Matt wake up one morning and go "oh no"?

You may hate the message but it's true. It is hard to win at ISU in football. Guess what..............it's always been hard. Matt Campbell knew that when he took the job. And this isn't new to ISU with JP as AD.

So I think Matt's use of this is really weak. I'll give him points however not blaming the long drive from the airport.

If we have any amount of sucess next year, I pray to god that Rogers and Pollard really lean into it.

"It's so hard to win here" is something you say when it's all about "me".
Well said. To me, you are describing Jamie Pollard. No one talks like this more than our AD does.

I would give anything to see our Athletic Director (in full partnership/lockstep with the entire fundraising apparatus of Iowa State University) do a 180 and start its biggest campaign ever, with a positive, optimistic, and unwavering focus of...

Iowa State fans - it's never been a better time to be a Cyclone. We have multiple sports that are on the cusp of competing for conference and national titles - we are going all in! We will be relentless in raising funds, finding new donors (big and small), and increasing our revenue streams - both one-time gifts and ongoing projects/donations - to turn Iowa State into a national power - to the amazing benefit of the University, the city of Ames, and the entire extended central Iowa economy. You all know we have wonderful major donors like the Sukup family - our goal is to have 10 more Sukup-level donors by 2035.

I have made it no secret my frustration with Jamie Pollard, so I do not have confidence this would happen (although perhaps CyTown gets partially there - I do live its vision). I do hold him responsible/accountable for this destabilizing event we are seeing with our football program. It absolutely baffles me how fans were scolded relentlessly in the storm after December 5 not to label him specifically as a villain, yet within a few weeks, it is perfectly OK to label our prior staff and players as the true villains. Literally every single statement a former staff or player makes right now is being blindly interpreted as a 'dig' or "f*** you" at us, as Iowa State fans. Hint - it's not.

I don't think there's that much difference. Both coaches built programs on recruiting to their system, player development, player retention, and maximizing effort and execution. That it's harder to win here is simple reality. Anyone can see our locker rooms aren't full of 5-star recruits and we can't offer the big bucks in the transfer portal.
I'm not saying it isn't harder. Of course, it is. I just don't see the needed to talk about it incessantly. It doesn't change the reality of the situation and - if anything - it's only going to turn kids away.

My point is that we should be hyping up what we're able to do. Jamie has been crying about this constantly in the middle of perhaps our best time as an athletics program. Maybe they need to try talking about what we're doing that makes this successful instead of focusing on what makes it harder. That's all I'm trying to say.

This is fair to say. JP's job is to fund the priorities of athletics. But people here will pretend he's doing nothing or actively undermining his programs when the truth is he's milked about as much as he can out of this fan base and her donors and he's still $30 million short. But he's getting more for that money than anybody else does for sure.

Sounds like a guy taking a new job where all the little things have not got to him at this point. JP was never perfect in all this, but he is not stupid either. He did have a job to do and a budget to keep, something coaches must not understand. CMC always knew the limitations of ISU and never had excuses until he left. PSU is a better job than ISU no question.

He also had everything he needed this season to make the title game and a run for the playoff. His team, led by one CMC, didnt get the job done. They lost in the margins, if you will.

So, to put a bow on this, when JFR wins 8 (or more) games this year, he needs to say: "That wasn't, too ******* hard, was it?!" When JFR wins the Big XII CCG, he needs to say: "That wasn't, too ******* hard, was it?!" When JFR has three consecutive seasons of 8 or more wins, he needs to say: "That wasn't, too ******* hard, was it?!"

Let's ******* Go State!

I think Matt Campbell is betting on himself and intends to use his first year to establish his culture. If he can win 10 games with his ISU players (and adding a few choice 4 or 5 star players), he will be able to start recruiting (and paying) an even higher level of players for the future.

8 wins would be a successful year. They lost a recruiting class and had a good number transfer out.

Whole lotta assumin' going on.

Does anyone have the number of Iowa State players (and recruits) that have committed to Penn State?

vs.

How many players/recruits from Washington State that have flipped to us?
Matt's up to 18 transfers and 9 recruits flipped.

We're at 15 recruits and no transfers yet, but a good chuck expected.

Sometimes things just don't work out, Injuries were at the top of the list of reasons this team fell short of expectations. Look at teams like TTU, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State. Did they have success commensurate with their resources?

The revenue sharing will be even harder for ISU tofund without a successful football program.
I think if they took a million or two from football and added it to basketball the football program could still field winning teams in the Big 12 with an occasional Big 12 contender. Still have tailgating. Money will still come in. Imagine the basketball team with an extra 1-2 million to spend.

If I’m not mistaken every player Campbell has gotten is from Iowa State. Compare that to what we’re doing.

They should be favored in every game except Michigan, and maybe USC and at Washington. 9 should be their expectation. I’ll tell you their fan base is looking for more.
