Three years ago, right after ISU pathetically lost to Ohio State in the first round of the tournament, I created a thread with the title "This is why Prohm must go......". Some people wisely (sarcasm) agreed with me and others, who I guess love Steve Prohm thought I was crazy. I actually hoped I was wrong because as many people have pointed out, Steve Prohm is a nice guy and I wanted him to have success at ISU. The problem is that if you are getting paid 2.3 million a year to win games and you go 0-18 in the Big 12 like he did this year, I don't care if you are nice. My main point that night was that I felt that Steve Prohm could not consistently coach at this high level and my belief was for a variety of reasons:

1.The first two years of his time at ISU were not a true sign of his coaching ability as he was handed a sure thing. Georges Niang, Monte Morris, Naz Mitrou-Long, Abdel Nader are all pros and ISU was going to win no matter who was coaching them. (Prohm did a fine job not screwing things up but his success as has been proven was due to the players)

2.The first real test was year three as the program should have been thriving coming off two successful seasons and 6 tournament appearances in 7 years (thanks to Fred Hoiberg) but instead under the guidance of Prohm, the team went 13-18 and 4-14 in the Big 12. I'm sorry but that's not building a program to another level. That's taking a step back which is clearly bad. Either way, he clearly deserved a fourth season based on the success the team had in first two years on the job.

3.Then because of transfers like Shayok and overall just a very solid roster, he should have had a huge season in 2018-19 but he didn't. His team went 23-13 and only 9-9 in the Big 12. Anyone who watched that team knows they weren't coached well and that they should have finished way higher than 9-9 in the Big 12.
*Haliburton, THT, Shayok, Wigginton, Weiler-Babb, and Lard and you go 9-9 and the lose to a
very mediocre Ohio State team with one high level player......sorry but that is embarrassing.
*The only thing ISU had to do in that first round game was double team Caleb Wesson the whole
game and make sure others had to beat us. Instead, Prohm used single coverage and let Wesson
go off for 21 pts. and 12 rebounds. He got so badly outcoached it was clearly showing that his
best at this level would be mediocre.

Either way, Jamie gave him a fifth year.......clearly it was HIS PROGRAM and so what did he do with it:

12-20, 5-13 (Big 12)
Lost to Florida A&M after leading them by nine at HOME!!!!!!!!!!! (and yet I would still read on here that he won two Big 12 Tourney titles so he clearly should stay.........comical)

It was now TWO LOSING SEASONS OVER THE PAST THREE SEASONS.........would he come back with a big season and make me look stupid (which I actually hoped for) or would he continue to show that he's not on the same level as Bill Self, Bob Huggins, Shaka Smart, Chris Bears.....etc......

Well....you know the drill, 2-21 and 0-18 in conference play......and yet some people are still asking the question about whether he'll be back next year.......how is that even a question??......

Over the last four seasons, he's got a 50-71 record and a 18-54 record in Big 12 play.....once more 18-54 in conference play........once again, don't care that he's a nice guy.......I want to watch a winner.......
This is Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm (years 3-6 are his program)
Years 1-2 were Hoiberg's team that made him look good

ISU doesn't deserve mediocrity.......Fred Hoiberg and Matt Campbell have CLEARLY proven this. They had and have us challenging for Big 12 championships every year. I bring this up because some people on my thread that night talked about how we're ISU and we're not a top program........that's crap.....get a good coach and everything changes.......just look at what Hoiberg and Campbell have done......

Many people said Virginia could never be on the level with Duke and UNC.......then they hired Tony Bennett who then won two ACC titles and a national championship

Texas Tech has been a joke for most of my life in basketball.....then they hired Chris Beard and they have been to an Elite 8 and a national title game in a very short time.

The national media kept saying Villanova could never get back to their really good days in the 80's and then they hired Jay Wright.......now they have two more titles and are a top five program every year.

My point is that we don't need to settle or keep Steve Prohm because he is NICE........imagine if you were a season ticket holder this year and had to witness this disaster up close......I'm sure it would be a lot of fun!!

I also don't want to hear about covid and injuries......it's the responsibility of the head coach to have depth and to win......Bob Huggins lost stud big man Oscar Tshiebwe right in the middle of the season and they didn't blink an eye.......they rolled to a tie for third in the Big 12 and will be heading to the NCAA Tournament.......again........Coach Underwood at Illinois just lost star Ayo Dosunmu a couple of weeks ago to a broken nose and then proceeded to beat Nebraska at home and then beat Wisconsin and Michigan on the ROAD (absolute destruction of the Wolverines) and all without Dosunmu.

Every program goes through tough times.......Prohm has clearly shown how his program deals with adversity.

Including this season, Prohm will not have won an NCAA tournament game in FOUR YEARS.......that's bad, especially considering where the program was when he took over........some people just don't get it.......Hoiberg had this program rolling.....Prohm was handed the keys to the castle and choked

He's 2-4 against Iowa with a current three game losing streak

In his sixth season, he coached us to the worst season in ISU history

I wish him the best because I do think he's a good man but he's in way over his head and I personally can't wait to see Jamie's new hire because I really love ISU hoops and these last four years have been BRUTAL

Just my take......Go Clones!!

He's gonna win the Big 12 Tourney and 3 NCAA tourney games and get a 4 year extension and CF will be END TIMES.

**jimlad before someone gets emotional.
