Possible huge snow storm next week?

It's supposed to be really nice Thu-Fri-Sat with abnormally warm temps. Doesn't that usually precede a big storm?

Euro GFS seems to indicate there will be snow but I didn't see as much as the picture lists, what is the precipitation length for the OP's link? believe the one I've linked is 6 hour precip totals. Based on NOAA's description of the GFS model, a storm will roll through Iowa Wednesday night (Feb 3rd) into Thursday afternoon.

I know CO mountains are supposed to get hammered Sunday-Tuesday, so it stands to reason that it will move through the upper midwest later in the week.

This forecast from the NWS should clear up any confusion:

"THE PATTERN IS CHARACTERIZED BY TRANSITION...WITH THE LONGWAVE
FLOW DEAMPLIFYING BY DAY 3
/FRI...REMAINING PROGRESSIVE NEXT
WEEKEND...THEN REAMPLIFYING WITH SPLIT-FLOW BY DAY 6/MON. THE FLIP
FLOP FROM AMPLIFIED TO PROGRESSIVE TO AMPLIFIED ALONG WITH THE
GREATER CHALLENGES ACCOMPANYING SPLIT-FLOW ON TOP OF THE PATTERN
TRANSITIONS SUPPORTS AVERAGE PREDICTABILITY AND CONFIDENCE TO
ABOUT THIS WEEKEND...THEN BELOW AVERAGE THEREAFTER."

Yep, I'm still 12.

weather.com says 3-5 inches next Tuesday with winds at 25. Long ways away, but maybe the worst storm we've had this year is some parts of the state.

Here's what NWS tweeted out a while ago.

I would like to avoid snow for the game on Tuesday. That will be annoying.

Whens the Caucus? Nothing would please me more than to see these idiots pump a bunch of money into Iowa only to have turnout killed by a snow storm.

Caucus is Monday, Feb. 1st, so definitely could be affected. Big storm would favor the candidates with the more fanatical and younger voters.

Storm is still 6-7 days out....way too early, but several model runs do indicate some major moisture. But with warm temps leading into it and timing and location all to be determined, this storm is likely a crapshoot until about Saturday or Sunday. But the pictures weren't a hoax...they just happened to be the most severe and crazy of the model runs. I am sure Earl will bring some rationality and sense to all this....

Pump the breaks. Way too early to talk specifics. Keep an eye on Tues/Wed timeframe in the middle of the country. That's about it.

Exactly, sometimes the models hit on the track pretty well this far out, other times it ends up in Ohio instead of Iowa.

It will probably be enough snow for Clones21 to get his car stuck en route to work at the mall.

Going to the game Tuesday and supposed to fly out of dsm Wednesday morning to Phoenix for the waste management tourney. Fully expect it to snow a minimum of 12" Tuesday afternoon/night
