Pollard Response on FB Tix

I do. Last year we got an update every day and could track season ticket sales as we set a new record. This year we can't even get an estimate 3 weeks after renewals were due....despite Pollard's promise of the thermometer in his letter. What's the deal? How many tickets have been sold?

have patience Monty. Ticket sales in total will be down this year.
If Chiz wins a little; ticket sales will go up next year, 2009. If Chiz wins big like he should! He will be out of town faster than you can say Keno Davis. I think we see a new thermometer this year, it will be based on dollars raised (higher in 2008), not tickets sold. Ticket sales will be lower, JP is planning on this, sooooo it is cool.

Lol. This JP worship is getting hilarious, especially since we're just coming off a couple of our worst sports years in decades. I think I'll wait until Greg and Gene actually accomplish something before I elevate JP to king of the world status.

All the more proof that he is great at his job. People support him blindly, believing in the future. JP's ultimate job is not to create athletic success, but increase revenue. Athletic success is one way to reach that goal, but until that happens he does a heck of a job selling hope and faith. ISU's athletic budget will be lucky to keep JP as long as they can.

Selling snake oil or hope in athletic success?

Dear Dave,

Blah blah blah...

We fully plan to start showing the ticket thermometer again once we get through renewals.

...Blah blah blah.

Where's the thermometer?

28 days and still counting???

Here's a better translation:

Dear Cyclone Fan,

Because it is so hard to undo collateral damage in a high visibility job like mine, I must resist the entirely justified urge on my part to tell you to go take a long walk off a short pier.

As tough as it is to get you cheapskate jerks to actually fund an athletics program at a DIV 1A level, I find it ironic that you expect "instant success" without actually fronting the cash and attendance for it.

Because you apparently know so much about how to succeed at running a D-1 school that is a perennial loser, and turn them into world champs overnight, perhaps you'd like to take a turn at doing my job.

But because saying the obvious would end up with you hypocritical cheapskates pillorying my butt, let me just say some nice platitudes in lieu of telling you to go "F" yourselves. I have work to do, making bricks without straw.

Thank you for your letter,

Jamie Pollard
Etc, etc,.....

We have different expectations for an athletic director, especially when he's making all the hires.

He should be a priest. :biglaugh:

Why destroy face? If ticket sales are down 8,000 right now, why throw up a thermometer to create hype for the rag and other media outlets? You flaunt it if youve got it, If you dont however, why make a fool of yourself?

Why did he tell the OP he's going to put up the thermometer when he had no intention of doing so? It's not like it prevents him from looking foolish, since the season ticket information will become public when the season starts.

Why did he tell the OP he's going to put up the thermometer when he had no intention of doing so?

Perhaps he had every intention of doing so, but the sales ended up being less brisk than he had hoped?

No need to throw the thermometer up there if sales are not meeting his expectations only to get ridiculed by outsiders looking in.

But the number of tickets sold will become public by the time the season starts. Why delay the inevitable?

Why not? No need to give the Jon Millers of the world ammunition to trash our football program for 3 months during the slowest time of the year for sports talk radio.

All winers read this and then tell me your plan to keep ISU in the Big XII. Canl't be done the way it's been done in the past. We need $ and alot of it. Pollard is doing what it will take to get off the bottom. It's up to us the fans to either make it happen or not! Period!
FY 2006-07, in millions1. Texas $101.52. Nebraska $71.13. Oklahoma $69.54. Texas A&M $69.45. Kansas $65.26. Texas Tech $53.67. Missouri $48.68. Kansas State $48.39. Oklahoma State $46.710. Colorado $42.411. Baylor $40.512. Iowa State $36.9

Because he's still fundraising for major facilities upgrades. If you have large donors on the fence about upping the donation, you don't give them a reason to doubt. You try to seal the deal first.

When it was first posted last year sales were around or under 30k. Watching it go up on a daily basis generated interest and enthusiasm from fans. It likely even accelerated sales as people saw the thermometer rise and knew seats were getting spoken for. Why not do the same thing again? Especially when Pollard himself wrote that he would.
