Pollard on kxno right now

Based on what?

His bluntness about our inability to compete financially. Basically saying “we’ve done all we can”, which I also believe. His comments about Campbell coming out of the rabbit hole were a little cryptic.

It seems like Pollard uses KXNO to get out ahead of narratives he wants to control.

Gotcha. Pollard has also said that if Campbell leaves he'll make sure it's not because of money, so not sure what to make of that.

"We know Fred's dream is in the NBA" is about as cryptic as he'll probably ever get.

Jamie had some good points about stuff we can offer Campbell the blue bloods can’t. No clue if he stays or goes, but If there’s ever a guy that would stay because of the other “stuff”, Matt really seems like that guy.

Exactly. Does Campbell want to be the King of the program with complete control to mold almost any aspect exactly how he wants it to be and top out at 5-6m per year? Or does he want to be a cog in a machine where every request or idea gets ran up a flagpole and half get denied but top out at 8-9m? Given what he know about Campbell, how he's said repeatedly (even when he left Toledo) that it's not just about the money to him, his CEO-type personality, ISU really holistically offers him more than almost any other program in the country can.

I love people saying things are dumb but sit there and cant make a statement on there own. You got a better idea genius, god forbid anyone says campus pitches in a little towards the pandemic cuts.

Well this is never going to happen. Are you sure that faculty didn't take cuts? I was pretty sure that they did.

Seriously though, if you think about all that has transpired this year. They cut all athletic budgets, the Athletic Department took it in the shorts with all the cuts. NO ONE from campus did. Then they wined, about this and that. He made some great points about how they took all the cuts and he is done taking cuts at that point.
My feeling is this, its time for the Faculty to take their cut for the AD. Each and every one of them take a $5000, cut out of their salary this year. Those that petitioned to close the school half way through in the fall, can get cut double that, at $10,000. Because while everyone was doing everything they could to make it work, they were complaining and protesting to stop it.
Than after taking that cut this year from the faculty. You just made about 3-4 years of a raise for CMC and his staff.
These professors need to give a little too, instead of wining and expecting everyone else to pay.
The AD paid their share a little off the top from Campus wouldn't hurt them for a change.

You're a little blustery for someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. No raises and two 10% budget cuts for all budgets is not "no cuts." And stop using the word professors when you're talking about all university employees, even though you probably don't realize professors aren't the only ISU employees.

That sounds like, donate folks, to me.

Not that I ever saw. I know Pollard said in that interview early this year that they hadn't. When there was talk about closing Stephens Auditorium, and the city and faculty went nuts. Yet none the faculty want to take a cut to save anything in the AD, and the city continually votes down any support for it. He didnt pull to many punches. If we lose CMC it will be the fault of the University not Pollard.
Oh, that. It was well scripted and played by Jamie. For every person he heard from - and I have no idea who they were or how many -- no one I knew said anything. You heard one side of that story from someone who wanted that side's info to get to athletics-only donors and make them rise up to defend ISU athletics only.

Also, last time I checked, it was Iowa State University, not “Iowa State Athletics with a few professors thrown in for ***** and giggles”

I love Iowa State athletics. But at the end of the day, Iowa State is a university first. So frankly extracurriculars and sports should be the first to receive cuts (and it sounds like that isn’t even the case)

Perhaps you should look into how the AD and the general university are funded (hint...it might not be the same)

I’m not suggesting cuts, but feel the students are getting the worst of it and nobody seems to care. Kids I talk to say professors are pushing immediately online. I’m not paying in person tuition for online classes. Kids are getting shorted the worst.

It’s basically the students carrying most of the issues

I think Jamie was irrationally pissed about that. I think the staff had worked hard to get a plan in place that thought was good and thought they had the right buy in and then were blindsided when they had to change the plan. I think he threw an old fashioned temper tantrum. (For the record, I thought the plan wasn't great and there were bad optics with possibly allowing the largest % of capacity in the country at that time.) I sent him an email after that basically saying that I knew the decision had been tough and I was excited to be back in Jack Trice whether it was for the Oklahoma game or next year. His reply was basically that they went through too much work and wouldn't do that again, so there would be no fans. And we all know how that turned out. And you'll note that he was far less worked up when there were no fans for Kansas State.

Anyway, all of that to say that I am sure he has some issues with the faculty and other community members regarding some of that stuff, but I don't think it is as bad as he made it out to be when he was on his media terror tour that week.

I felt like Pollard was trying to prep the fanbase for a possible nut kick. I’m a dogged pessimist about these sort of things though
tenor.gif

Look up how many tenured faculty members there are, and how many expected to be tenured and then talk to me. There is a difference between a tenured faculty member and a merit employee.
Iowa State has Faculty, Professional class, Post doc, and Merit staff classes of employees.
So when I am talking about Faculty and professors, that is exactly who I am talking about.

And just getting no raise and your department taking a cut is the same thing as the coaches taking actual cuts in salary? Then running around signing petitions and protesting to close the school.
I guarantee CMC wasnt petitioning the school to close.

I know what I said I didnt misspeak.

You're still misspeaking. There's a professional and scientific classification, not a professional class. I didn't sign a petition about anything and know no one who did. I also did not protest to close the school. What does being tenured or tenure-track have to do with anything?

I was not comparing university budget reductions and no pay increases to pay cuts for athletics employees. I was contradicting your statement of Jamie: "He made some great points about how they took all the cuts."

And just as an interesting bit of info, not comparing it to anyone or anything else: the half million dollar pay cut volunteered by Matt Campbell would pay my salary for nearly 10 years.
