It's a slow day at work today. I don't always have free time like this. And I'm not just doing this for my own benefit. I believe there are others who would like it, as well. Thus, the poll to assess the interest.

I don't think the idea is bad, but I have a hard time imagining it working well or being useful in this format. I get that a lot of people head straight to the forums on CF, but really the rest of the website is the proper place for news.
Now, if your idea of a news thread is more of a collection of links to external stories and the like, perhaps doing something like creating a CycloneFanatic subreddit would be the right direction. I can't say I like the idea of a link thread.. the forum thread format just isn't ideal for that stuff.

Could you do everyone a favor in your spare time today to change your avatar? That blender-Cy with blue mixed it is undoubtedly the worst logo we have ever had. I really have a hard time taking you seriously with that thing next to your posts.
That was the logo when I graduated from ISU. I can't help it...I just like it.
The problem is, your idea won't make anything better. It will just create more clutter and take on additional moderating responsibilities. It's not necessary what so ever.

Why not take it up with the mods/owner? This isn't a democracy cowboy. It doesn't matter what we think.

You're not a mod, so don't worry about the impact on their time. Let them make the decision. If they don't want to do this idea, it won't happen.
Why are you fighting this so hard? If it's as bad an idea as you think it is, then it will die a natural death. But if it survives, then maybe it wasn't such a bad idea. I don't see how it hurts you other than having one extra thread showing up in the list that you can simply ignore.
Of course it matters what we think. Sure, it isn't a democracy, but a little bit of data never hurts when you are requesting something. There are at least 40 people who think there is some merit to this idea.
