Police Officer Shot Point Blank

This seems like it should have been the world's shortest trial.

This happened back in 2016, but is in the news now due to sentencing.

This is a pretty clear cut example of why police officers don't always (& shouldn't always, imo) wait for a gun to be drawn on them to use force. A split second can mean life or death.

Hopefully that scumbag never gets out of prison.

At the same time, I don't condone some of the panic shootings done pre-emptively that have been done by some policemen. Innocent people have died in those cases as well. We are all in this together.

What does this have to do with the President? Was he supposed to convict the guy in the media like Obama did?

No we're not. Cops are out on patrol by themselves against criminals who ignore commands and think nothing about shooting at them.

Criminals? Seriously, some of these shootings are completely unjustified. Cops are running scared. Cooler heads need to prevail. But a Cop really needs to be sure and I know that is putting his life on the line. The Cops I know gladly put their life on the line to be sure. The Cops are running scared. But pre-emptive shooting makes things worse.

They choose to do it and they get paid for it. It's definitely an admirable occupation but let's not forget who they actually work for.

I expect and understand that the police will get ready to draw their weapon if you fail to obey commands, and blast you if you reach into your pocket, waistline or other area that could conceal a weapon. Videos like this underscores that the public has a responsibility to not make a cop nervous (by following orders) and they only reinforce suspicions that bad guys and thugs are carrying.

Eh.. They aren't compensated enough (IMO) to put their lives on the line while the public expects them to never make a mistake.

Video of this instance shows why a police officer shouldn't have to wait for a gun to be drawn to use force. In this instance, that could have been taser due to noncompliance with the order to take the hand out of the pocket. But if he used his taser before the guy shot he would have been chastised for being racist & profiling.

It's a no-win situation & why I have no idea why anyone would choose that profession. It's going to get to the point where the best suited for the profession simply won't go into it due to pay not being enough while expectations are unrealistically perfectionist.

Seriously? Tamir Rice didn't have a chance. What in the hell do you do when the Cop says he wants to see license and registration and you reach in the glovebox to get it? Bang bang. You are dead. A Cop has a responsibility to not be that afraid to panic shoot constantly. Sounds like the abundance of guns has made us less safe since cops are in panic mode of everyone packing heat.

I don't disagree with the overall point here, but I do question your watching of the video. You didn't watch it, did you?

This officer did everything he could to avoid what happened. When he first meets the suspect, he is very calm...almost "buddy buddy". Suspect was given multiple opportunities to be civil.

Yes I watched it. Police shot 12 year old Tamir Rice within 2 seconds of driving up......and did not tell him to drop the pellet gun or give the kid any warning. The kid probably didn't even know what was going on. And Ohio is an open carry state. Why should people freak out about a gun. NRA says everyone should open carry.
