I am not trying to trash any of our players. I think we have a lot of good ones and it's been great to see many of them grow into the roles they play today.
That said, if Matt has the money to spend on his roster that is being reported, you really have to wonder how many of our guys are going to be suiting up for Penn State. There will be some, no doubt. But don't we think their expectations are going to be higher? Won't their donors have a bigger say in roster decisions whereas Matt enjoyed an unusual amount of autonomy here?
Let's say that plays out and not as many go directly to Penn State as we fear. I, for one, don't think this is going to be our guys suddenly dressed in navy and white in Happy Valley next year. It's all way more complicated than that.
Many people are saying "they may not go to Penn State, but they could certainly go elsewhere". This is, of course, true. But would it not reason that many would prefer some level of continuity staying at Iowa State and - presumably - taking advantage of some additional NIL money that will be freed up elsewhere?
Maybe this is copium on my part and the roster is certainly going to look a lot different. I'm just wondering if it's going to be the 75-90% loss that some are projecting.
