Penn State dual preview

133 and 174 could end up 6 pointers. I know Ramazan was tough against Vito, but RBY is on another planet right now. Starocci too.
Can someone explain this scoring to me? I am so lost but would love to learn

There are 4 ways to score points during dual meets. If you win a match by 1-7 points, that is considered a regular decision and worth 3 points to the overall team score. If you win by 8-14 points, that is considered a major decision and worth 4 points to the overall team score. If at any point in the match you get up by 15 points, the match is over and considered a technical fall that is worth 5 points to the overall team score. If you get pinned (both shoulders on the mat at the same time) or are unable to wrestle due to an injury, that is worth 6 points to the overall team score. So, Enis is saying that there is a chance we could get pinned at 133 and 174 as the Penn State wrestlers at those weights are elite and past multiple time NCAA champions

Pins are worth 6 team points. Tech Falls worth 5 (winning by 15), Major Decision worth 4 (winning by 8-14), Decision worth 3 (winning by 1-7)
Thank you! How does riding time work? Can you get points for that too?

If you amass and maintain over 1 minute of riding time throughout the match, you awarded a point for that match at the end.

Example: wrestler A and wrestler B are tied 2-2 at the end of the 3rd period but wrestler A has 1:00 of riding time, they would win 3-2.

No worries, it is confusing. I never really realized how many rules we have until I tried watching a dual with my non wrestling friends and I had to explain all of the situations. IMO it is a big problem for wrestling, the high barrier for entry because of all of the rules.

Decision - worth 3 pts for team score = wrestler wins by 1-7 pts over opponent

Major Decision - worth 4 pts for team score = wrestler wins by 8-14 pts over opponent

Technical Fall - Worth 5 pts for team score = wrestler wins by 15 pts, match is stopped when scoring margin is >15

Pin - Worth 6 pts for team score = pin occurs when any part of both shoulders or part of both scapulae of either wrestler is held in contact with the mat for one second.

I'm kind of in and out on Wrestling, so why isn't Swiderski wrestling? Is he hurt?

Also, how do I watch this tonight?

He’s a little banged up but should be back in January

It’s on a streaming service called Rokfin. I think they do a 7 day free trial but it is $15/month for Rokfin and $15 ppv for the event.

@BryceC

Rokfin's channel "IA Wrestle" ran by @hagertony is also the best subscription if you have any friends/family involved in the high school scene

If you want to knowledge up on scoring, here is a link to a page to help you on your way. In the old days, things were even a little dicer since to get a T fall, you had to get back points or it was still just a major. When it comes to team scores and this crazy thing called criteria, don't waste your time, if you understand it, you will be like one of ten in all of the US that knows it without looking at a chart.

I can never figure out why wrestling is a dying sport, with difficulty attracting a new crowd.....
It's like Hawkize on Twitter gatekeeping being a fan of wrestling. If you want the sport to grow and succeed, being a **** to new/newer fans isn't the way to do it.

We would love to bring any and all the common fans we can for the wrestling team! This team is a lot of fun to watch and they let it fly. You are guaranteed to see scrambles, lots of action, and guys that compete hard and represent Iowa State well

Should be a fun dual tonight. These big early season match ups are a blast. Love how the schedule has turned out this season compared to recent years.
We will win a few and be competitive in others, but the team score could be ugh

True. I'm not as concerned with dual score against PSU, tbh. I just want to see how well we compete and if hte team score gets ugly then whatever. Kinda feels like house money at this point. Tons to build on the rest of the season from this weekend.

Going to be a very tough match up. Penn State is looking really good. Only dropped two matches so far and both at 125. Avoiding bonus points at 133 or 174 would be massive

This. Let it fly. We have zero to lose. They are the top dogs for a reason and we are talking about winning 4 or 5 matches. We've come a long way, boys—a long ass way.
