Patio Door replacement

No. I’d plan a on about 2000-2500 for a decent vinyl slider with install.

Thanks! I'm definitely not doing a slider. I'm going to do a French door. I don't really care if it is a double door or not though. Right now only one side of it is a door, but I assume they'll have to replace the whole thing.

Just put a slider in last summer. The thing got back ordered for a month and in between the time of order and pick up, it went up $600.

Can’t really tell you what installation would be, as we took out windows and cut in the door, plus replaced another door and poured a patio.

We got one with blinds inside the windows. Definitely worth the extra cost.
We have one with the blinds in the window as well. It's awesome, but something that surprised us is that the mechanism that holds the blinds open eventually gets weak and they drift close through the day. Not a huge issue by any means but certainly a minor annoyance to have to open them a few times a day.

The main thing I like is that we have no curtains to mess with. It's south facing, so a lot of sun. Without the interior blinds, we would have had to have curtains across there to open and close.
And if you have a dog tail that whacks them, or an air duct that blows at them, that gets annoying.
You also don't have to dust them.

They would. We have a Pella French door at our
place that needs replaced soon but we’ll probably go with a slider.

Doors are crazy variable in price and quality, so it depends on what you want. The cheapo French door are probably 800 or so and go up from there.

You need to include supplies in your labor price which is why I was saying 200-300 isn’t even close. You’ll be paying for screws, caulking, flashing, trim, etc outside of the door cost. Most contractors will mark up materials by 10-15 percent as well. Don’t expect for pick a door and and have someone install it for 300 bucks.

Yeah, I wasn't counting on that cheap on installation. It's just hard to get an idea based on google searches, so it's nice get some idea. I found one random estimate saying $8000 and I about had a heart attack, so I suppose if I can keep it under that I'll be happy!

I'd go with a slider, but it is the door I use 99% of the time and a slider would drive me crazy. And would probably hurt resale.

I don’t think it is even half that amount unless they have to cut a lot because you have some rot or something occurring.

I’d pick a door and plan on 1000 +\- for labor and materials.

We spent about $9000, but like I said, that was cutting out windows, framing up the new hole, pulling and reinstalling siding, pouring a 12 x 20 patio, new patio lights and replacing a single door to our deck too.

I am pretty handy. I did all the tile floors in our house, installed the quartz countertops and some hard wood floor work.

I just remodeled the entire inside of my racecar hauler and it turned out really nice too LOL
Just stay away from those black flags good luck on the ovals this season stay safe

We live in a split foyer and I completed a major home improvement project recently where I replaced our plain Jane front door with a new door that included sidelights and transom.

I saved a ton of money by purchasing my door through the Door Clearance Center in Houston (https://www.doorclearancecenter.com). Although I had to pay for shipping costs, I still saved a ton of money compared to buying it in central Iowa. This place sells patio doors, so I'd encourage you to check them out.

Very happy with all the added light the new door brings into our home.

You still got the old door?

Also, if you contact someone and they can be out there that day or night to give you an estimate, don’t hire them. The only exception being a company that has dedicated people for giving bids on projects.

Not every contractor that is backed up is good but almost every contractor that isn’t, is bad.

Basically I'm trying to figure out if I'm talking more than $5000 total.
We put in a Pella slider about 5 years ago and it was about $5000 installed. It's wood on the interior and has blinds built into it. Installation included matching the existing stain and woodwork. Looks great, but like most sliders it doesn't seal perfectly. I've heard French doors seal better, but I have no proof of that.

I used to be (spent three years as a wood flooring installer). I’ve done pretty much all my own work on the house for years, but back issues and tendinitis in both arms has me picking my battles.
