I don't know Owen Freeman, but I will vouch for the idea that seeking a bigger paycheck does not equal bad character. The vast majority of us have left jobs for better pay, sometimes multiple times.

As far as quitting goes, that's your opinion. All we know is that he had surgery that caused him to miss the rest of the season. It's highly unlikely that a player would have surgery that they didn't ultimately need, so the "quitting on his team" part comes down to the timing. Could he have played through it? Was the pain more than he wanted to deal with? Was he worried about aggravating it? We don't know any of that. And none of the potential answers to those questions automatically make him a "bad character" guy.

But even if he just wanted to shut it down to make sure that he was fully healed by the time transfer season rolled around, that's a business decision in his part, a decision that is replicated in the rest of the world all of the time without anybody questioning someone's character because of it. Only through the antiquated lens of College Athletics does that come into play.
I guess we just disagree. All the best to you.

@FinalFourCy name a player other than Dix and Freeman that will be playing P5 basketball next year at a school that isn’t Iowa. Traore maybe? Dembele maybe? Pryce maybe? Isn’t that the list?

IMO both Traore and Dembele will definitely be P5 guys. And some P5 coach will take Sandfort. At a minimum he's a primary bench guy.

Of the guys you mention, I would love to have Dembele. He's probably in the NIL budget that makes sense for ISU. In 16mpg with the Hawks, his overall stats don't blow you away (4.5ppg & 3.5 rpg). But he shot 38% on his 34 three point attempts and 71% on FT's. He has the raw tools to work with and working with our staff, IMO he could be a Jefferson type guy.

The 22-63 (35%) on career 3Ps at 6’8” 255 is intriguing. If he’s a lower compensation guy, I think some P5 will take a chance on him

You live in Omaha, I assume.

IU has the deepest of pockets. Cook alone has no issue adding $10+ million to the budget for the right hire. That’s not even a month of interest.

Assembly Hall is odd, but also something cherished by a huge, passionate fan base. They don’t need an entertainment district to entice fans, and I doubt that’s something coaching candidates care about
Sounds an awful lot like Nebraska football. I assume you think that is still a destination job. Creighton hoops has more $ than they know what to do with.

Not from Omaha but been to multiple tournaments there. Creighton is in downtown Omaha. Their entertainment district rivals Power & Light. NBA arena that is always sold out. One of the best hidden gems in the country.

Great atmosphere but even better than that is the atmosphere Nebraska developed has to watch an average team. That is the best atmosphere in the Big 10.

I would expect Dishon to lose some weight and be much more effective next year. I’m basing that on the Rob Jones improvement arc.

I also expect we get 1 guard similar to Jones/ Gilbert

I hope an incoming freshman can start and 1 more plays significant minutes

I would like Heisie to play the 6 man role

I would like a to get a Hassan Ward type to come off the bench

Ha Freeman would quit after one summer workout on the soccer field. He couldn’t handle TJ.
Don't know the guy personally but maybe he was going through something in his personal life. Our coaches all check into this stuff. You can criticize TJ's xs and os all you want but he knows what he wants and knows what we need. You gotta believe in TJ the recruiter. He's proven to be about as good as it comes from a personnel stand point

All valid points. But I think the overall factor is the player’s motivation.

Does TJ want players who are motivated first by money? I don’t see it that way. TJ first wants to recruit players who are motivated to be better players first and foremost; any NIL money would be a secondary motivation. This is why TJ has hit the mid major transfer portal pretty hard during time as HC. Those are the type of players who are playing hard to make a name for themselves. And it’s that motivation that works very well in his very rigorous training program

If he can't defend we don't want him. End of story
Agreed. And if the player's talent or playing style is the reason that you choose not to pursue them, more power to you. But if you're declining to look at players who are in interested in you, just because they're looking for a payday, that's silly. If you can't afford them, that's one thing, but to blindly dismiss them out of hand just because money is their motivator, is dangerously antiquated thinking.

He’s been at Iowa for 2 years, do you consider the STDs that he could bring and spread at ISU?
