A guy sitting about three rows behind us started a "Let's Go State" chant at one point during the second half. The rest of us joined in almost immediately, and after about four rounds, the cheerleaders caught on and started holding up their signs. Kind of cool when the crowd is actually ahead of the cheerleaders on cheering. :)

I could hear that guy clear as day when he first belted that out. It was awesome.

Really the only part of crowd I notice people coming in late and out a long time at half is lower level east side towards middle of field. They must have close donor parking. Is there any reason we couldn't just let those people go booze up in SEZ club and stop the re-entry? I really don't want the whole stadium wasted the whole game and then driving after.

I never spotted who he was (I'm short - I can't see over people very well) but I'm guessing he was in my generation, because he was doing cheers from my high school days in the early 70s: "Nuts & Bolts, Nuts & Bolts - We...got...SCREWED..." He was cracking me up. :)

Why would the university not announce the highest possible attendance? My guess is that could have been spillover from the student section because there were people sitting in the aisles there.

People from SW corner always move over to fill that upper visitor section a little better as it becomes obvious those seats were not sold.

And the hillsides weren't packed, so I assume some of those folks found spots in the bleachers.

Not saying they did, just saying I was surprised because it felt fuller and looked fuller. The student section always gets that way because people buy tickets for other areas and go to the student section because that is where the party is at.

Kudos to the students though, they almost had most of ZZ Top filled, and they are over capacity in lower level and upper closer to midfield.

A lot of younger alumni do this. They still know students, still have an ID in case something weird happens and an usher actually looks, and aren't living close enough to buy season tickets or afford the donor level seats. So buy a cheap corner seat for games they can make and go sit in student section.

Back in my day they hadn't updated the student IDs in years.

Basically if someone were to give a huge $50 mill + donation today and say it was for a NEZ reno, it would be done, no matter what the attendance or any other issue you can think of. If we are going to talk about when the University starts entertaining the Idea on their own without a push from donors I say it is going to be 10 years before anything happens there. Also, there is a good chance other renovations get done first ie. Press boxes/Sky box suites, another club section on the west or other area. Updating the bleacher seating etc. Unless there is a specific push for the NEZ I don't see it happening for quite a while, but it is fun to dream.

honestly I'd rather them use 50mil to keep updating the practice facility and use it on the staff's salaries over the stadium.

In this day and age you have to always be renovating your facilities.

The Olsen Bldg gets knocked down and a Performance Facility gets built in the parking lot between the Jacobsen Bldg and the Berg. Not sure what if anything goes where the Olsen Bldg was but they will have to put visitor dressing rooms somewhere. The NEZ lower level is rounded off and filled in with dirt but remains grass hilsides with a different slope. The concourse would extend over the entry of the Jacobsen Bldg where it merges with the current Olsen Bldg. JP has mentioned that you could "look down into" the Jacobsen Bldg from the concourse. I hope that the Jacobsen Bldg is tiered back matching the hillside thus creating some good sitelines in the corners. Put small stands in front of the Jacobsen Bldg for the band, above the 1st level suites (where the REG banners are) you build some suite type seating up to the second floor of the Jacobsen Bldg (similar to TTU's new endzone). Each team gets a true tunnel entry if that is done and also keeps access to the north exit remaining for utility and emergency vehicles. The SEZ balcony seats added 5,800 seats and since the angle is sharper in the NEZ, we could assume 300-500 fewer seats. Lets say 5,400 seats added in NEZ balcony. You would likely lose another 500 seats rounding off the NEZ hillsides so you really would only be adding 5,000 seats. If you added a new press tower (similar to the one at Arrowhead in KC would looks match well) you add another 500 seats. 5,400 new seats brings you to 66,900 and that is perfect for the next generation of Cyclones.

I would also consider moving the students to the NW corner so they could be closer to our players and not get in the path of the visiting squad when we storm the field but I like our students behind our players and near their exit so we can see celebrations.

moving the students to the west side would look bad because there is only 37 rows on the west side lower deck. Makes the stadium look dinky. The east side has 10 more rows, looks more big time on tv.

I agree to a point, I think we have to continue to improve and upgrade our facilities, including Jack Trice and Hilton. I think we all have our pet peeves, and can name things we wish were done. But keeping up with other practice and athletic facilities is a must.
On the other hand I have always hated the Jacobson Building. Not so much the concept but the look and the size in contrast with the stadium.
But I would rather make sure we keep top coaches right now and in a few years think about the next stadium project.
Like I said If someone were to designate a LARGE donation that more than half pays for a large renovation on a certain part of the stadium, it would get done, otherwise I see the money being concentrated in other more pressing necessities for several years or longer.

I thought the music was great, and they kept the crowd flowing for the most part. It was a great big love fest from where I was sitting. People hugging total strangers, high fives from 70 year old men to 20 year old men. Just a great day to go back home to.
We were high fiving people around us. There were three early-teen girls and a mom directly behind us. I think it was after Spears' interception we flipped around to high five them and they had hands & mouths full of cotton candy. The guilty looks on their faces were priceless! We fist bumped instead. ;)

Shouldn’t this have been our top crowd considering the circumstances? I agree that there’s potential after building on success in the future but it seems silly to talk about right now.
How is this even a question given the fact we’ve had larger audiences just this year alone? I was disappointed in the number, but even the most optimistic fan didn’t see this one coming.

I don’t disagree- the first priority is increasing coaching salaries- but practice/support facilities can be incorporated into a potential NEZ.

The mass exodus at halftime is completely and utterly embarrassing. This was ok before the McCarney days, now it needs to away faster than Sweet Caroline. Either bring booze in with you or fight like heck to get it served at the stadium.
I think serving it in the first half and getting rid of re-entry could be a compromise. But I'm afraid if they sell alcohol during the game there will be more coming and going that also hurts the atmosphere. There's a downside to every idea regarding alcohol at JTS.

I’ll agree with the others here that have said the Cyclone Power chant was one of the loudest ever, but what really impressed me most was the Let’s Go State chant coming out a time out. That was the loudest I have ever heard that chant, and it sounded like everyone attendance was chanting it.

I think a lot of this is very exaggerated.

If you look at where most of the people are, most aren't outside the stadium, theyre in line for concessions\restrooms because we're pretty poor at moving those quickly. So selling beer inside the stadium wouldnt really help that.

We couldn't even fill the stadium for the game yesterday - I think you can let any NEZ expansion dreams die.

EDIT - Let me rephrase this. Doing work to make that area look better like Pollard has talked about would be nice. Adding a bunch more capacity, in the day and age where people choose to sit at home and watch on tv is silly.

I actually agree with your edit portion of the post. Across the board both in college and the pros ticket sales are struggling. It would be a terrible financial choice right now to add seating until it can be determined if that’s a continued trend or a blip. And It’s not like JTS only seats 30,000 and massively needs to expand. Gotta think long term with this, not short term, and filling out a 61k stadium vs a 65k stadium one or two times a year isn’t going to be worth it.
