Happened upon this article today, made me chuckle. Hurley hasn't even taken the Lakers job, has he? Media is wild; what a time to be alive.

Even if they targeted him, Otz isn't leaving. I know people have said this about past coaches, but Fred always wanted the NBA. I think Campbell likes it here, but if an Ohio State or Notre Dame came calling I wouldn't begrudge him for leaving, but I think he's tied to Pollard as much as anything. Otz is exactly where he wants to be, and will have a job as long as he's successful (current levels appear sustainable).

Every time someone seems overly confident about one of coaches "never" leaving, I feel obligated to remind people that coaches are some of the most highly driven, ambitious and competitive people you will ever encounter.

Does Otz love it here right now, I'm sure he does and I'm not questioning that. If he believed there was a better situation where he could win say 3 national championships and get twice the money over his career, I wouldn't be surprised if he would leave and I wouldn't blame him.

I'll bet UConn fans say "even if they target him, Hurley isn't leaving".

There's also the factor that these same driven people want to build something, not be the caretaker of something another coach built.

In the past 14 years, three different coaches have one national titles at UConn.

I look at it less of the "ISU is so special to him" as the program is his, he built it. What gets accomplished is due to him. Hard to say the same thing at a school where Kevin Ollie won a title.

It is great to have our coach on lists like this. It further legitimizes the program he is building.

I have to believe that the UCONN job is going to get a lot of coaches more successful than Otz. Not knocking our coach, but he has yet to make a deep run in the tournament in his three years here. In 10 years he may get an offer like this from a school like UCONN, but not at this stage of his career.

I would love to know where anyone thinks UCONN can come up with $17 million to buy out TJ.

So..... why start this thread? If OTZ is not leaving, no need to throw this out on the interweb. Toothpaste is out of the tube, so let the freakouts continue.

No doubt (Matt Campbell is cut from the same cloth IMO).

The other factor is, who the hell wants to be the next guy at a place that just won back to back titles? That is going to be the expectation going forward, and if you don't get another one within a few years, you are likely done.

I hope TJ gets the pay he deserves. When he became head coach, he postponed some of his pay. And now we have the belt-tightening caused by the NCAA settlement.
