OT: Time for a new car

My wife is a road warrior, 500-600 miles a week with her job. We drive the hell out of any car we have. I had a 96 accord with 275,000 on it and basically got rid of it out of boredom. I got a new Civic and it is about the same size as my old accord. Anyway, if you do a Honda it is important to know if the timing belt has been replaced at 90,000. If not it is kind of a pricy deal. I have owned five Honda's that all have went over 150000 miles without an issue with anything. Great cars and my Pilot was made in the US and the Civic in Canada.

I would get a Chrysler Lebaron convertible. If you even look at anything else you have to be insane.

Preferably get a Lebaron owned by Jon Voight. Just make sure he spells his name right though, and you might check the glovebox for pencils with teeth marks.

Seriously though, a guy on here had an Impala for sale recently, a little over the price range you mentioned but maybe worth checking out if it's still available.

I dont mind foreign cars, but they are soon to be taking over the top sales slot from GM and it isnt doing our economy much good when everyone is buying jap. pickups and cars. also Chrysler is a couple weeks from being possibly shut down because they are bought out

The problem is, the us car companies just do not build quality cars. Sure there are a few here and there, but for the price, the japenese brands are just better. I am in the market to buy a new car right now, and I tell ya, the Acura, and Lexus models are so much nicer than anything I have seen out of an american car. I am impresed with a volvo, and since it is american, I am hightly considering it.

Thanks for everyone's input!
Actually its the president's wife that drives the WARTBUG.
There seems to be some good deals on eBay.
Has anyone had any experience buying a car there?

Get an AMC Matador.

Here's my first car only mine was in white. Not my choice but my parents knew what they were doing because by the time my brother got done driving it too it was about dead. They don't make em anything like this anymore and believe me that metal bumper is what you want your 16 year old to have!

Jeep Wranglers have awesome bumpers!! Solid! However, given their top heavy nature, they are not wise for teenagers (or anybody) who like to take turns at higher than posted speed.

Here's my first car except it was a silver rust bucket. Piece of crap threw a rod on the highway in the middle of nowehere. My sister had it before me and never put oil in it!!

Freakin classic...

If an 'american' company can't build a car you like or trust, they deserve to go to heck. My american cars have always been mediocre, but they have always been cheaper too. I will strongly consider a Honda, Toyota or Hyundai next time.

Take this from a car guy that has had 15+ cars in the last 20 years of driving. My last 8 cars have been imports and they have all been super reliable but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a GM, Ford, or Chrysler product. Each of these companies have certain cars that are good a certain ones that are not so good.

Nearly all of the car companies have made huge strides in the last few years and the chances of you having a lot of problems is very small. The one thing that I do believe that is still missing on a lot of Domestic cars is fit and finish. If you drive a 10 year old Honda Accord and then go drive a 10 year old Touras you'll know what I'm talking about.

So in summary, don't just go by nameplate but research the actual model of car itself. Even the best companies have duds. Acura/Honda had a huge transmission problem a few years back.

Incredable deals right now on Chevy Impalas and malaboos. Check any dealer..they want to sell cars badly.

Well no matter what you pick my middle school students told me to tell you to "throw some D's on the mother *&#*@"

I really need to stop reading CF forums to students ;)

Sorry on the spelling, I went to broadcast school at Iowa State, never learned to spell. Mal-a-booze would be plural for the car.

Gotta say, I'm a big fan of my black 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP w/ Comp G package (Supercharger, tuned sports suspension, red brake calipers, etc). 3.8L V6 w/ 260hp & 280 ft/lb torque is enough to throw rubber on the street and smoke above the car, yet it has relatively decent gas mileage for the size of the engine (19 city/27 highway). In the two years I've owned it I've only had to have the oxygen sensor replaced (and that was covered by warranty) and three lightbulbs. That's it. It's been very maintenance-friendly. My wife says the car was one of the top 3 reasons why she married me... :wink0st:
