On That Note: We Are "3" Together

“Mind Games”
John Lennon
Oct. 29, 1973

Overlooked Lennon album. As a single, the title track may be underrated, but even so isn't one of the strongest cuts on the album. LP doesn’t have much chaff. Production quality is stellar, to my ears, and has a good mix of rockers and mid-tempo/folky/contemplative.

(Honorable mention)

Spinners (self-titled)
April 1972

I debated whether to use only singles from this, or as album. I’ll post only a couple and leave some hits for whoever wants them. I think it’s worthy of mention as a long-player.

Gram Parson--GP

This was the first of two (both fine) solo records from Parsons before he died at age 27. He was of the same age as the early rock greats but he had a flame for country music. He exposed me (and many others I'm sure) on to a genre I had heretofore dismissed. The album is aided by a crack studio band and vocal harmonies from a young Emmylou Harris. He was a great singer when sober and that was his strongest suit.

Good choice.

Also I like the opening track:

1963--The Beatles-Please Please Me

The band hit their stride in '63 and that was the start of Beatlemania (in the UK).

Early on they were still doing a fair number of covers (rather than writing all themselves) and often favored obscure R&B songs like this one.

The Who, Quadrophenia

Another Rock opera best listened to in it's entirety. Tommy and Who's Next tough to follow but a lot of great music on this double album including...

Ah. This song brings back memories of my very first grade school crush.

Paul McCartney and Wings, Band on the Run

Band on the Run is McCartney's third studio album after leaving the Beatles. It remains McCartney's most successful album and the most celebrated of his post-Beatles works.

Joe Henderson's Page One from 1963 (and most of his stuff from the mid 60's) is golden. Wayne Shorter from the same era too.

Good list! I had forgotten about "Dead Skunk" ... even if it comes to mind I wouldn't recall precise year of release.
