This song is packed with references to radios, VCRs, stereos...but most interestingly it speaks directly to the OP...

Plug in my M.C.I. to exercise my brain
make records on my my own, can't go out in the rain

This refers to Sting plugging in his Music Center Inc. multitrack recorder to actually make a record.

Also, it references the Teenage Awards Music International concert from 1964 which, if you're a big enough Rolling Stones / James Brown fan you'll know something about.
