On That Note: Fame

I travel around from town to lonely town
I guess I'll always be just a rolling stone
If I find fortune and fame
And lots of people know my name
That won't mean a thing if I'm all alone

Now my widow she weeps by my grave
Tears flow free for her man she couldn't save
Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame
All for a useless and no good worthless claim

And there's fire on the mountain, lightnin' in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there
Fire on the mountain, lightnin' in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there
Waitin' for me there

A letter to you on a cassette
'Cause we don't write anymore
Gotta make it up quickly
There's people asleep on the second floor
There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Truth, beauty and a picture of you

You'll be walking your dog in a few hours
I'll be asleep in my brother's house
You're a thousand miles away
With food between your teeth
Come up for summer, I've got a place near the beach
There's room for your dog
There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Truth, beauty and a picture of you
There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Truth, beauty and a picture of you
There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Youth, truth, beauty, fame, boredom and a bottle of pills

Quite a little song there!!!! And it gets... moreso, as it goes along

I was a free man in Paris
I felt unfettered and alive
There was nobody calling me up for favors
And no one's future to decide
You know I'd go back there tomorrow
But for the work I've taken on
Stoking the star-maker machinery
Behind the popular song

Got this one on vinyl...

When my picture's in a frame, in the Fool's Hall of Fame
There'll be no one you can blame but me
She was mean and so unkind
A two-faced woman with a one-track mind
I was so blind I could not see

This is a bit of a stretch but I had to try. Thermadore is one of the more criminally underappreciated bands from the 90s so any chance I get to shout them out I will. Saw them at Gabes in I.C. when I was at Iowa. Such a cool band.

Well she's Amerasian...
And you've had a few...
And the reputation that she's keepin' well it's following you.
