On That Note - Decades, 1950's and Before

Looking at these different decades should show a nice evolution of music. I would say the 50's we started seeing the influence of rhythm & blues on the modern music of the times. Plus we had the invention of the transistor radio which allowed more people (kids) to be exposed to new music.

I never thought of that, but that's just how I was exposed to popular music--via the transistor radio (in the late 60s').

Some of my faves:

1959

1958. Its appearance in American Graffiti was just about perfect.

1951

1957
Thelonius Monk composer and piano player. Coleman Hawkins sax.

1951 (maybe) from Tito Puente and his killer band

When I was a teen I was immersed in John Lennon's "Money" from Live Peace at Toronto, and now I can hear how faithful he was to Barrett Strong's original--in particular the guitar. Great vid of Little Richard who was a certain influence on Paul McCartney's singing.

John (and Yoko) first met and played with Chuck Berry in this 1972 video. Johnny B. Goode starts at about 4:00 - 4:30.

In the one below from about 1986, Berry plays Johnny B. Goode with John’s son Julian — which might be part of Berry’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (or an associated movie). It starts with some brief (obviously earlier than 1986, as Lennon was killed in I think 1980) comments by John Lennon on Chuck Berry and his music in the 1950s, and his influence on other groups.

There are quite a few videos from that time with Berry and Keith Richards on guitar (and others, like Clapton) playing Chuck Berry tunes. I think Richards inducted Berry into the Hall of Fame.
