Oklahoma Sucking

I'd be curious to see how he would have done. I was thinking he was there through 2021 but left after 2019. Then Aranda started off great but obviously is not going to be around much longer.
Aranda has been there 5 years? Doesn't feel like it.

I don’t think any team is totally safe. Alabama wasn’t great after Gene Stallings until Nick Saban showed up. I think the SEC realizes this and that is why they are trying to lock up spots. Recent power teams having dumpster fire years include Florida, FSU, Michigan. It can happen to anyone. Saban was a generational coach. Who do you see as next line? Right now you have some parity between schools resources and players.

Campbell is next up after winning the NC and flipping the bird to all the blue bloods who write him blank checks.

So thinking about OU and Venables again today. Seems to me they are destined for 6-6 best case this season, potentially 5-7. Could be two losing seasons out of three for Venables and it sure doesn't seem like there is a lot of confidence in his ability to correct course. If they fire him after Dec 1st they owe him $44.8 million (!) buyout. That's big money, especially given the NIL/House settlement climate we're in.

Can they afford the cost to fire him? Can they afford the risk of keeping him and tanking even further/longer? Their 2025 schedule already looks like a buzz saw. Home games against Michigan, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Mizzou. Away to Alabama, South Carolina, Tennesse plus Texas neutral site. Almost certainly setting up for another .500 season unless they go crazy in the portal.

Spitefully, hope the buyout is too much of a pill to swallow and they are stuck with him. If they are, and they finish 5-7, would it be a shock to see some amount of portal exodus as well? You'd think.

I know a bunch of Oklahoma fans and have been to all of the ISU games in Norman since they announced OU was leaving the Big 12.

Not one person liked the idea of leaving. And most didn’t like the possibility of not having the Okie State matchup each year.

Better option is firing him, paying the buyout and hiring another crappy coach that lets them stay mediocre.
