Oklahoma Contemplating Leaving Big XII

Re: This Big East Talk Might Be a Waste Also

I have that term copyrighted. :wideeyed:

I don't think Big East is gone. Two reasons. First, I think ACC is not going to expand nor lose any teams. They don't care about keeping up with the Jones. Second, ECU and UCF are BCS schools in waiting. They are not small schools. ECU has a large stadium and their attendance is bigger than Duke And Wake Forest combined. UCF has the largest undergrad enrollment of any campus in the country and is in a recruiting hotbed. They would become members in a second. Also, Big East has both Texas and Florida markets and I don't expect that to change because USF and TCU would not be expansion targets for Big Ten or SEC.

You do realize that less than a decade ago the ACC raided and "stole" the Big East's 3 best teams (Miami, VT, and BC)? I doubt any of those three schools are on the "level" with ACC academics, and even if they are, how is that not "keeping up with the Jonses?"

When it comes right down to it the ACC is just as power and money hungry as the Pac 12, Big 10, and SEC - they just don't have the same power or money as the other three, and if the other three need teams they will be picked from as well.

Completely disagree. I get excited about watching Texas, Tech, ATM, Mizzou and OU come into JTS. Rutgers, UCONN, S. Florida, Cinci? No thanks.

Ummm...better get used to it. And what about WVU? Louisville? What about basketball? Would you get excited about being in the best basketball conference in the nation? Again, it's far from a done deal but this type of attitude should change immediatly. There's a good chance a move east could happen. No reason to **** in everyones cheerios if it happens.

You are free to cheer for whichever team you want then. Just make sure you leave your cardinal and gold behind and make sure the door doesn't hit you on the way out...

Here my look at things....

1. This thread sounds an awful lot like that over done and bloated thread about aTm BUT, BUT it turned out to be TRUE. Thats what sucks.

2. The Big East thing. I think it would be a great conference but we cant talk about leaving for 2 reasons. One; being we cant pay the 30 million exit fee if we were smart and proactive and decided to leave. Two; if schools like the forgotten five in the B12 start talking about leaving there is NO, and I mean NNNNNOOOOOOO hope of saving the b12.

3. 16 team super conferences SUCK. Smaller schools will never have a chance at over coming power house schools. I agree with a previous poster, if it wasnt football, the attitude of todays whining complaing money grabbing bitchy colleges would have totally killed college sports for me.

Get off your high horse. Where in my post did I say anything at all about not supporting Iowa State? I simply said that going to watch Cinci, UCONN, etc come to town does not get me nearly as excited as when the big boys from the Big 12 come to town. I haven't missed one game at the Jack since 1999 and I'm not going to start now.

1. If OU is talking openly it is not a good thing.
2. If OU leaves the Big 12 is done
3. Yes they will I hope the non FB rich schools in the PAC 10 and Big 10 are happy about their programs being left for dead and they enjoy the paycheck they get from the conference as they sit in an empty stadium on Saturdays. For the fan of small schools this will ruin college FB.

I don't think the ACC is going to get poached. Really, the only team that I think could leave is Florida State, but the SEC isn't interested in getting more teams in states it already owns.

VT to the SEC is a rumor that is out there.

I am an UCONN fan and we will be playing you guys soon.

The fact OU president just openly stated that they are looking means they already found a landing spot and ready to move. No president would make that kind of comment unless he is leaving the conference. With OU to the PAC-12, OSU/UT/TTECH will surely follow. PAC-12 might just take OU and OSU, but I doubt it. Unfortunately for the B12, this is most likely the end game.

I think your comments are off regarding revenue. BE's new TV contract is projected to be $19M to $23M per team per year.

Looking at your recent revenue of $46.1M per year, you would be 7th out of 9 schools (including TCU) in the BE with total revenue generated. You will have higher revenue than just USF and Cincy. Other BE schools all make more with UCONN, UL and WVU making much more. Remember this is with the crappy BE contract now, BE already turned down $1.4B deal with ESPN so they expect more. When it is all said and done, BE should get more than $18M per year in the new TV deal.

Based on USW&R for academic rankings, 5 BE schools (UCONN, RU, Pitt, SU and TCU) would rank higher than Kansas, KSU, Missouri and ISU.

Regardless what media has been saying about the BE, BE would be much more stable with addition of several B12 schools.

It it most likely BE will take 3 of you to go to 12. It is possible BE might take the other 2 left behind to go to 14 if TV deal will justify it.

There is a window until next 9/12 for the BE to get the membership finalized before they sit down with the TV folks. It looks like things are moving pretty fast now with OU and A&M openly looking at other conferences.

agree on OU....They would not go public if there was not a deal already. UT wanted to be the alpha male in the B12 and to do so, they had to show they had the clout to attract teams to the conference to stabililize. OU gave them a window, and it appears UT may have failed. UT is only worried about UT and nothing more, regardless of their public posturing. Trusting in UT has been a mistake for a long time. Neb, CU, and now aTm decided this very thing and they left because they could.

I concur. Let's move on. Screw OU and UT. Were a quality institution with passionate fans. We bring integrity. We will be fine.

VT, MIZZOU, A&M and Clemson join SEC

Tech, Texas, OU and OSU join PAC-12

ACC I think will stay at 10 teams.

BIGEAST will poach remaining BIGXII teams.

That was to get a championship game. A lot different than now. And there were a lot of ACC schools against it, but they were persuaded because of title game. It will be very difficult to persuade them to further expansion.

You know, if OU and OSU decide to head west, and Texas leaves the building (or even if Texas decides to stay), I would be more than happy with an alignment between the remainder of the B12 and the what will be left of the BEast once a few schools are picked off.

VT and Clemson stay ACC. ACC stays at 12. SEC STOPS at 14. Big East expands to 16/24 by adding ISU/KU/KSU/Baylor/ECU/UCF and Villanova for football and Xavier for basketball.

2 8-team divisions in FB - play 7 games in division, 2 outside
4 6-team divisions in BB - play 10 games in division, play 6 outside playing one other division each year

If the Big 12 breaks down why do you want to have anything to do with Texas?

Is it?

Why did the ACC want a championship game? More $$$

Why are conferences expanding their footprint? More TVs. What do more TVs mean? More $$$.

When the ACC's and their member school's feet are put to the fire, they'll act no differently than the Big 10, Pac 12, and SEC or their member schools either.

Sure, because a passionate fanbase and integrity are the two biggest keys for us to be able to bring in the money that we currently do.

If the Big East takes some more teams, I hope the basketball only schools like Depaul, Seton Hall, etc. all leave and go to the MVC or some other basketball only conference. The Big East should only have teams that provide division 1 football and basketball.
