Officials tonight..

You do realize that two of the refs last night, Pat Adams and Mike Stuart, have done multiple Final Fours, right??

The game was called just fine.

WTF does that have to do with anything? Just take a look at the Iowa HS playoffs in football or basketball and you can tell that talent doesn't have much to do with the officials getting to call those games.

Unless I'm mistaken they're both selected the same ways: The coaches grade them.

For the most part, fans are idiots. I'm sure these guys are terrible and that's why the NCAA had them doing the Final Four last year. They go out of their way to make sure crappy officials are handling the biggest games of the year. Makes sense.

They were fine last night. Anyone who thinks the stripes will be perfect is a moron. They're going to see things the TV camera angles don't catch and we're going to see some things the TV angles catch and the refs don't have line of sight for.

The game was called pretty even, but there were some bad calls both ways. Refs get graded, I believe, and last nights game will not be one of their finest.

Yes, the "coaches", if they have time, grade them.

I like how someone has to mention this after every game. We all know that there are "no Big XII refs for basketball" yet somehow the same guys end up working all the conference games. Funny how that works.

If everyone knew that, then their wouldn't be threads with posters mentioning how big 12 refs are awful in basketball, when theirs not a conference affiliation. Maybe day the regional refs who wind up calling our games are awful. Funny how that works!

Very funny! Glad we are keeping our natives in check so they know there are "no Big XII refs."

Geez dude. Maybe you should take a few grammar lessons before you get all high and mighty about how much you know.

I assume you also believe the coaches actually vote in the coaches poll as well...

I was more upset with the commentators not watching the game/conveying clearly incorrect information about the game.

How many times were they jabbering about something while one team or the other was fast breaking the other way and they didn't even seem to notice what was happening?

Non flagrant on the football tackle.
Travel call on a putback where a guy went straight up and got fouled.
Timeout given after guy had been tied up for a full 3 seconds.

Those are some of the worst calls you will see. The flagrant one could have got someone hurt or suspended because of their ineptitude. We had a few bad ones go our way but nothing as outrageous as those 3.
The problem with the officiating, IMO, is that all of these were called by the same referee.

In general, I think the officiating of college basketball is horrible. Forte sets screens like he's blocking in football and every other OSU player throws hip checks to set screens. The only way you get those called is to flop.

I was pleased I didn't have to watch the refs have monitor time. They probably should've gone to the monitor to review some things, but that game was fun to watch because there weren't a lot of breaks in the action.

This is probably perceived, but towards the end of the season I sometimes think the top conference teams are shown a little officiating preference. With ISU being 2nd place now I hope the calls go our way in these last games, (but I've always been selfish).

They called traveling on Nash at the end of the game. I'll take that officiating.

100% agree with you. I did think they made several calls (especially at the start of the game) that were in our favor that some would say normally the home team gets a pass on. That travel call at the end was HUGE.

Weren't the free throws pretty much even? That tells me there was a lot of BS calls, and they went pretty evenly. McKay getting tackled wasn't a "Flagrant" but it was a foul. Hogue's flop was called on the same player and that was a complete joke. Worst call of the night easily went to the call on Niang for getting his arms pulled into the play and calling him for his fourth foul. Absolute joke. But we won the game, so nothing to see here, keep moving.

^^This^^

I could have sworn that the ESPNU broadcast crew had their backs to the game and were watching the game along with several others on a bank of monitors.

Refs were fine. Every basketball game has incorrect calls at all levels. Through rose colored glasses it is difficult for most (any?) fans to be impartial. We are looking/hoping for calls to come our way when it is beneficial. I know I for one find it hard NOT to hope for a whistle when our offense drives into the paint and misses the shot; just as I hope for no whistle when we are on defense in the same situation. The emotions of being a fan. Some people need to learn to deal with those irrational feelings, it would be beneficial to our health :)

Yeah, it's amazing how many times they get the call wrong. But my favorite was when Georges was out and they were talking about how OSU was going inside because they didn't have to worry about his help side D anymore.

The refs were ok for stretches but were god awful in stretches too, and I'm not talking about tough 50/50 calls. OSU fans have a handful of examples just like the ones referenced in this thread, BDJ rolling around on the ground into peoples legs comes to mind. I'm biased and it's bad when I can't believe ISU didn't get a foul called on them.

On Hogue's fourth foul, the color guy was like "I'm not saying anything about that".

Also they kept talking about "Game over man! Game over!" when Niang went to the bench. Apparently they didn't do their homework and know that Nader is always ready to step up.
