Vazquez, in his limited run, did not put a foot wrong. Had a great pass in the buildup a few minutes before his goal too.

So if that’s the case, why the term goalie vs goalkeeper has to be a problem? John Moston is British. The Guardian is a Uk publication. Can’t imagine a club like Glasgow Rangers, John Moston and Alex Ferguson are wrong to use the term.
My first world cup was 1986 and I don’t see any “strict” rule that goalie only works for hockey.
I feel fine. I’m just sick of US soccer fans that act like this.
As a long time soccer fan (my first world cup was 86), this is just unfortunate and I actually see that happening.
Back in early 2010s I used to visit a popular soccer site where a lot of people would blog and preach about “why we should like soccer”, “people who don’t watch soccer miss a lot”. Unfortunately a lot of them were having snobbish mentality. I recall getting “scolded” for not using the term “PK” yet we are the only country that probably use that term.
In my opinion, these snobbish attitude hurt development of soccer because newer fans are regarded “less” than older fans. Sadly these “old” fans probably just became fans after South Africa World Cup. I gently reminded them real fans don’t belittle new fans and are open to people using different terms.
Some of them actually continued to be snobbish and that’s unfortunate. Sometimes I ended up asking then questions like “do you know Roy Wegerle without googling? What club did he play for? Where was he originally from” or “which team did Thomas Dooley play in Europe?” And that will shut their mouths.
Can we imagine if we start belittling newer cyclone fans? Or belittling international students who are not familiar with let’s say football game terminologies? I bet that would go well (hopefully my sarcasm can be detected here)
What is so important w the 1986 World Cup that you keep referencing it? I was not belittling I was trying to educate. In hindsight I shouldn't have made the hockey comment I was trying to give him background.
