Were there more than three subs per team last night? I was not paying total attention but I felt like there were a lot of subs. I know that happens in a blowout. I just checked the rules and international friendlies can have up to 6 subs. I think that is great to get more guys at least a little bit of live experience.

Ya international friendlies get 6 subs. ES used 2 in the 1st half to sure up that backline after the early blow out.

Exactly. Sure the best leagues in Europe are better than the MLS. But the smaller leagues in Europe are very similar to MLS.

I share your judgment, but don't share your wish completely on MLS. I hope it grows so much that it is a selling AND buying league. I hope for continued fan growth over TV and in person that it continues to make more and more money and attract not just the big stars who can still play at the twilight of their career, but also younger stars who see it as a legit league and the quality improves. There should always be some MLS rep in the MNT and hopefully the league will continue to get better so that a good deal of MLS players are still in the top 23 for the MNT. Tonight's shellacking and the way several of those younger MLS players played was very encouraging.
I agree, I'd like that too. One step at a time though. I think the European appetite for American players is growing and that will help MLS. Unfortunately, just a little experience in Europe still does wonders for market value. Boavista bought Cannon for $3M and now want to turn around and sell him for $12M. It's not that Cannon improved that much or that Boavista is a better club, it's that Cannon was undervalued (and Cannon being desperate for Europe).

I admittedly don’t know much about this kid, but Matthew Hoppe scored a hat trick today for Schalke becoming the only American to ever do so in the Bundesliga.

He’s 19 years old and signed with Schalke in June of 2019. It doesn’t look like he’s been involved with any of the US Youth National teams. Schalke is a dumpster fire right now, but adding another teenage striker who’s playing in the Bundesliga to our player pool is nothing to complain about.

I’m seeing reports that Swansea is interested in bringing Jordan Morris over to Wales on a 6 month loan to help them finish their season. Swansea is currently 3rd in the Championship table and fighting for promotion. This makes a lot of sense as I have serious doubts that MLS is going to have a normal season until we COVID under control.

Daryl Dike headed to Barnsley on loan. Barnsley are currently 12th in the Championship.

It also looks likely that Swansea are bringing in Paul Arriola on loan in addition to Jordan Morris. Reports are that the deal isn’t final, but it will get done before the window closes.

I love getting some of our young MLS guys over to Europe on loan until the summer.

I hadn't seen the announcement until my NI mates texted me today:

https://www.starsandstripesfc.com/u...4556/usa-usmnt-northern-ireland-friendly-2021

I got to attend a match at Windsor Park end of 2019 before we moved back, Euro qualifier v Netherlands. I have nothing to compare it to (soccer wise) but hitting the Belfast pubs prior and walking the mile to the stadium on a truly NI night (cool and rainy) was a pretty neat experience.

Juve locked in McKennie permanently today agreeing to pay about $22m to Schalke over the next three years. Honestly, I thought this move was not going to be great for Weston. I had my doubts that he would see the field regularly, but he’s really been a solid, dependable piece of their midfield.

I didn’t think much of the move either but in my opinion he’s been the best American player since the move
