As has been evidenced by the comments in this thread, the worst thing about this team is that their play is losing the investment of the fan base. If the team looks like they don't care, the fans lose interest as well.

First time in years I turned away from a game in the middle of the second half because it was apparent this team wasn't capable of a comeback. In the past, I always stuck around because their was a sliver of hope the team could come back. That hope is gone, once this team start circling the drain in a game there is no one, coach or player, capable of pulling them out of the death spiral.

Basketball games are compared to death spirals now?

I have absolutely no idea what we are trying to do on defense. Shayock has to work his ass off to get one open shot. Screen after screen after screen to maybe get an open look. On the other end of the court a player like febres who made 8 3's is routinely left unguarded after 1 or 2 passes. It is really hard to watch.

This is true, but even worse than that is they don't seem to care much about "Hilton Magic" and keeping that going either. It's been lost this year, and they don't seem to care.

Yes, in that once this team gets hit, like a damaged fighter plane they circle to the inevitable crash into the ground. Is this not a phrase with which you are familiar? I apologize for using phrases which are beyond you.

No I just don't think a basketball team's play needs to be so dramatized.

They played like a basketball team playing bad, that's it.

I think everyone needs to prepare themselves for the very realistic possibility of this team losing out. With another roadie at WVA and Tech at home, then conference and NCAA tournaments nothing is guaranteed based on the way we are playing. I hate to say I have given up on this year but I am holding on by a thread. I really hate the way i feel about the end of this season - I hope something happens to snap this team back into shape but with Cam backsliding I don't think it's likely. Wish I could be positive but I can't.

It's just more perplexing than anything else. Getting exposed vs TCU was the start of this. But even then, we've had great performances against KSU and OU sandwiched in between these lackluster games. I didn't predict us to win at Texas, but yesterday was brutal.

Still a lot to play for in both tournaments, but these guys need to figure something out if they want to make any noise in March.

Jacobson too. Why Prohm refuses to start our best players is baffling at this point. We get behind early and have to rely on Wiggy and Lard to get us back in the game. How about actually start those guys and build a lead for once.

I know we were leading early in this game and I can remember other losses that we led early, before substitutions. IMO, who starts and substitution patterns are the least of the problems. (I do think Wigginton might as well be put back into the starting line-up.)

You mean the 2-2 hot start in the conference?
Why not after the 2-0 hot start?

How do you know they don't care?

Do you want them to offer themselves up for sacrifice? Do you want them to personally call you and tell you how much they suck?

I don't think you can assign emotions on people you don't know.

Not sure how we're the most talented but some people love to spout that off.

Oh and we'll have a tourney appearance to show for it based on a transfer and a core group of freshman that will continue to develop and grow.

Typical of the fan base to overstate how good our players actually are. Saying they are clueless is being *kind*.

Agreed but I think a whole lot of our inconsistency is that we still don't have a leader. No one steps up is vocal. We don't have a Niang, Naz, Kane, Morris, Ejim, etc. Babb just isn't that personality. Shayok either. I don't think LW WANTS to be and LH and THT are too green.
Exactly. I posed this precise question regarding leadership to Prohm last summer at one of the tailgate tour stops. Mentioned how teams in the past (except the previous season) had well defined player leadership and who was that going to be this year. He hesitated, I figured he'd say Babb, but you could tell he was struggling to name someone. Basically said he hoped it would be Shayok. Guess that was an omen.

I am prepared for that and in fact I am predicting it, we will lose last 4 games.

That said I will still watch every minute of every game cause that's what people do who have ISU nutcups

It makes sense when you look at some of our struggles. I think if Cam was a little more mature he has the alpha personality to fill that.

FWIW, I think Tyrese could develop into that role as he progresses in his career here.

What's the definition of insanity?

I can't remember a single game this year playing meaningful minutes that we had two posts in the game at the same time. Why not give it a shot?
Why not start Wigginton? Haliburton could be a nice spark off the bench.

I'm not saying i have the answers, but why not mix it up a little bit and try something different?

We can't guard on the ball with 4 guards, but you want to trot out 2 posts? Yeah makes sense, let's put Lard, MJ or George on a 4 or 3 so we can watch the driving lane be exploited more than it already is.

At this point it's not the opposing big's that are hurting us. What is hurting us is:
1. Poor on ball defense, allowing opponents to drive into the lane.
2. Not knowing who to not help off of (Yesterday Febres is the perfect example, that guy only wants to shoot 3's, hell he attempted 16 against Baylor, don't help off him EVER).
