That's the great thing about the Cleveland Browns, though. That job is going to be open again in two to three years anyway.True however I’m guessing Matt probably wanted his shot at it
One year is also in play. That's the great thing about the Cleveland Browns, though. That job is going to be open again in two to three years anyway.
The reality of it is, these are 22-to-36 year-old young men…If Campbell had not taken the Penn State gig I absolutely believe he would have chased the Browns job.
They are looking to hire the guy that used to work for him.And he would not have gotten it
It's was a blessing in disguise when he took the Penn State job. It gave us a chance tomake a hire and get a roster out together. Imagine losing him now when most of the transfer portal has been picked over already. If Campbell had not taken the Penn State gig I absolutely believe he would have chased the Browns job.
Campbell hasn’t worked for Sean McvayThey are looking to hire the guy that used to work for him.
Campbell would have had a great shot at it.
I hear you, but 25 players would not have been able to just transfer to Cleveland, to follow him. It's was a blessing in disguise when he took the Penn State job. It gave us a chance tomake a hire and get a roster out together. Imagine losing him now when most of the transfer portal has been picked over already.
It works the other way also. Most of the players would have stayed at ISU!It's was a blessing in disguise when he took the Penn State job. It gave us a chance tomake a hire and get a roster out together. Imagine losing him now when most of the transfer portal has been picked over already.
And we would be stuck with players that likely don't fit the scheme of a new coach. Especially on defense. It works the other way also. Most of the players would have stayed at ISU!
While that would send the Squakeye Nation into a massive depression, I would much rather just come away with a no-doubt, solid win. Doesn’t have to be a blowout, but a 10-14 point win would push the seeds-of-doubt pleasingly deeper into their mushy, addled brains.Well- there's hope as they lost most of their starters as well. Continuity and venue are in their favor, however. Konrardy hitting a walk-off 54 yarder to complete the trilogy would be out of this world.
It would've forced our hand to hire what's his name, PSU OC . I seriously don't care to remember his name anymore. Lol. And I'm getting old. It's was a blessing in disguise when he took the Penn State job. It gave us a chance tomake a hire and get a roster out together. Nah, anyone we didnt want or fit, would be told it would be best for them to explore other opportunities. I would guess several that left this year were told that. And we would be stuck with players that likely don't fit the scheme of a new coach. Especially on defense.
Portal opens if your coach leavesIt works the other way also. Most of the players would have stayed at ISU!
I think his idea was that if many of the players could not follow him, they would not have left. Him going to the NFL means he would not have been able to poach from us and players would be unable to follow him.Portal opens if your coach leaves
The timing definitely may have forced some players to stay, but it would be really difficult to replace any that left with comparable talent. Our best players would have still likely had other opportunities if they wanted. Like you said, it didn’t happen this way so we won’t ever know for sure how it would have played out.I think his idea was that if many of the players could not follow him, they would not have left. Him going to the NFL means he would not have been able to poach from us and players would be unable to follow him.
Also if it happened say now, well after the normal window, the timing would not be good for a mass exodus as most teams have mostly filled out their rosters by now, even with the portal reopening for a coaching change.
It’s a possibility, it could also not change anything. I could see it both ways, who really knows, it didnt happen so this is where we are.
Wasn't Campbell offered the Browns job one year?Well Scheelhause getting the Browns job is cool. Wonder if Matt is jealous.
